I am sure you would get higher pay with more experience than I have. Average is $1,200 a week based off of their pocket card, it really depends on how much you want to run. I'm having no issues getting the miles to make that average, and still get some "me" time to decompress during runs. I'd be happy to let you know privately what Ive started off with CPM wise, I just do not know what their pay is for those that are more experienced.

Keep in mind too that they have three quarterly bonuses based on idle time (you have an APU, not hard to get at all), MPG, and cruise control usage. It's nothing to scoff at just for being mindful of fuel consumption. The longer you're with the company, the higher the bonus too.

    Don't get crazy.
    Don't do something stupid.
Like picking up and moving from Arizona to
North Dakota for any OTR company.

Let alone one you've only been with a few months.
And why do o you have to close too the yard.
You came from crst. Anywhere you went from
    There would've felt like heaven.

Remember your just a hired gun like the rest of us.
    Nothing more.
Let's say you move from sunny Arizona to that
God forsaken miserable frozen tundra of
    North Dakota.

Then 2 weeks later you take off someone's
Mirror at 2 am at the truck stop.
Thier insurance company tells them they
Have to kick you to the curb.
Nothing they can do about it.

Now your stuck in that hell hole.
And there ain't many options out there.
Crst was so bad that your just caught up
In the emotions of being decent company.

You don't move for otr jobs.
    There too unstable.
If you want to be close to the yard, buy a cheap
Rv and stick it down the road from the terminal.

If something goes sideways or you hate it there,
You can hook up and leave.
Have you even put on chains yet.
Do you know the stress of driving on snow
    And ice everyday.

Your 8 hour day is now 11.
And you won't get a penny more for doing it.
Get it out of your head that your special to them,
And your gonna stay there 20 years.
That's not how this business works.

    I'm not being a #######. I'm just telling you
    How it is.
You picked box #1 and went crazy that you
    Won a refrigerator.
    There's a hundred more boxes you haven't
    Even looked at yet.

Could be a new car in one or a 2 week vacation
In too Paris in anther one.
Or 10,000 bucks in another one.
    You get the point.

    There's a 1000 different jobs for a truck driver
    All over the country.
Moving to North Dakota to drive otr in the winter
Is all the way at the bottom of the list.

    Good luck,dress warm.
Start practicing putting those chains on.

So @LDYTRUCKER what does your husband do? Do you have kids? How will a move effect your extended family? Some things to take into consideration before making a major lifestyle change. Yes, let me assure you it IS a lifestyle change to move to ND just like it was a lifestyle change to move from a town of 1300 down here to Tucson. BTW having a passport and being Canadian eligible would be a big plus to any employer up there.

Believe it or not, there are actually people who like North Dakota.

Fantastic hunting and fishing, low taxes, winters keep the riff raff out.

Without knowing the whole situation about factors outside of my career, a stupid move to you is a very smart one to me. I'm not a young kid. I have no roots, no children, and nothing tying me to Arizona. I do have a lovely grandmother that I dont see nearly enough in my home state of South Dakota.

I have many other skills and grad school to fall back on should I knock into a mirror and get let go.

An RV is not optional, renting a house until we decide to plant roots is perfectly fine with me. That is a perk of being OTR too. If we hate it after a year, we pack up and move to the next place, and I still get to stay with my company.

I have not put on chains on a semi. I'm fully aware of the stress and uncertainty of driving on ice and snow. You take the bad with the good, as in any other job you have in life. On that note, business is business. I may not be special, nor would I expect special treatment since i am there here to work. However, showing drivers they care by adding creature comforts while on the road at no expense to us, knowing my name, and providing me with a paycheck I can pay my bills with and not stress about finances is more than enough for me to be grateful and work my hind end off for them. That's above and beyond what youd get in a job outside of trucking.

As far as picking boxes, I'm happy to have picked a box where I wake up and look forward to my day. How many people can truly say they even had the opportunity to pick a box? And out of those that have, did they open it up and smell the ######## it came with? I'm happy with my refrigerator right now=)

Grabbing chains next time I'm up north and if you're out and about, you might see me practice putting them on at a random pilot/flying j. Say hi!

Once you have chains on. There is no uncertainty when on ice pack. You brake and you get thrown forward in seat. It's better than black top. Way more traction. You will need 6 chains .

    LDYTRUCKER Thanks this.

He is a mechanic/welder, looking to start working in a shop and go to school to work on diesel engines, a dream of his. No kids, just the animals. My parents are ready to leave Arizona in the next few years, my father in law supports us fully. My grandmother in South Dakota is super happy I'll be much closer. Sure, my parents think we are a little nutty to want to go somewhere like ND, but they aren't surprised.

I was ready to pack up my car and leave when I received my Bachelors Degree in 2015. Then I got married the day after I graduated, so there went that! Moved to Phoenix from Chicago to get two degrees and had no intentions on staying, funny how that worked out.

I've never lived in one place all that long. Nothing ever felt right, until i get in the Dakotas...its just that feeling of being home i guess. If my husband decides he wants to go back to Arizona, we will do that, I get to keep my job either way and I dont have to be in that sweltering God awful heat!

Thank you! I haven't had anyone really describe what it's like driving with chains on. I cant lie, it makes me nervous even thinking about it, but I want to learn, and I want to be safe.
