No... When his 14 is done he stays on duty (to be legal anyway).
One can work 100 hours straight. They cannot, however, drive after the 14th hour.

MBAngel, Gatorgrl and Omega7777 Thank this.

Assuming the trainees are fully licensed (not just CDL permits) the trainer can be anywhere in the truck and even off duty. The truck co may have some rules about how to train new hires, such as , always be awake when trainee behind the wheel etc. But we all know some trainers hit the bunk and let the new guy drive, which he is allowed to do, legally. (he's fully licensed)

3 drivers in a truck means rotating bodies between the driver seat/sleeper. :biggrin_25512:

    MBAngel Thanks this.

Currently the training program is 180 hrs per student. With 3 people in the truck the trainer will do very minimal driving only when necessary.

    MBAngel and Gatorgrl Thank this.

so, if we could drive our 11 each day.. each... Then 16 days would be it. Why do I keep hearing "6 to 8 weeks" of on the job training for so many companies? In 3 weeks a noob could be "trained".

More to driving these trucks than what you are going to experience in a few weeks. If it was that easy everyone would do it.

    MBAngel Thanks this.

It’s roughly 3-4 weeks on the trainer truck. Depending on freight volume. And then another 5 days at headquarters doing the finishing school course and actual upgrade.

Imagine how much they are underpaying you the rest of your career if they can afford $30,000.

    Justrucking2 and MBAngel Thank this.
