They feel exactly how they're supposed to feel...intruded. You will not get any friends for doing this.

I will not drive for a company that has driver facing cameras. I have nothing to hide, but it makes me uncomfortable like I'm being stalked. I feel intruded upon and feel like my space has been invaded.

Then you better hope like hell they don't find out you had any video, that's destruction of evidence and I guarantee you can't get away with that.

I know a driver who was experienced and knowledgeable. He was coming around a curve on the interstate in the wee hours of the morning, pitch black, and struck a 4 wheeler that was in the travel lane being pushed by the driver and passenger. Sadly the driver of the 4 wheeler was killed, and the passenger was thrown into the ditch and survived.
The police on scene investigated and their determination of the circumstances was that the CMV operator couldn't have prevented the tragedy from occurring. His cellphone was confiscated by police and there was no indication of cellphone use during the time of the collision. No charges were filed by LEO's.
The forward and driver facing camera was reviewed by the company and it was determined that the driver was not in violation of any law, however he was in violation of some type of company policy. He was terminated pending the safety determination based on the camera footage. The company never made public what specific policy the driver had violated. They claimed it was for his own protection. It could have been something simple like, eating, taking a drink, adjusting the radio or checking the time.
My whole point of this story is that this driver had years of experience and a clean record and was terminated due to a terrible circumstance in which was deemed unpreventable by the law, yet he was fired by the company for some minor, and impractical policy.
For this reason I disagree with the driver facing camera.

Now that I don’t have one with my new company, I don’t care about them anymore. :)

If I worked for a company that put one in a truck I was driving, the last image that camera would capture would be me flipping them off, then digging a big booger out of my nose and wiping it on the camera lens blocking the view.

I'd promptly give my notice and finish it out with a piece of duct tape on the lense.

I won’t drive for anyone who puts driver facing cameras in their trucks. Why? Because to me its an issue of trust. If the company needs to watch me drive then obviously they don’t trust me to do the job correctly and take care of their equipment. Not to mention the fact that it leads to extreme micromanagement. I’ve heard of people getting wrote up by their companies for taking a drink of soda while driving, changing the radio station etc. Outward facing cameras are fine. I think those are great and can protect the driver.

Thats pretty surprising, because thats like admitting guilt. A lawyer could run with that info.

Why is this post in the owner op section? No owner op would have one or have reason to have one. It’s kinda why we ARE owner ops. Take all that BS out of your life. It’ll give you cancer.
