    I know nothing...

The flip neck is necessary because... bridge law? Weight distribution?

There is obviously a lot that I don't know about your set up.

Unless you needed more bridge between your drives and the jeep axle group, could you not have achieved the same weight distribution by moving the fifth wheel plate back on the jeep?

I am not questioning your motive, just trying to learn.

It comes down to axle group to axle group spacing to avoid close coupling. I needed to get 18’ spread from first drive axle to first jeep axle to make it legal for Purple bonus weight in California. At this distance, I can get 13’ 6” from rear drive axle to first jeep axle. This will me to permit for 40k and 60K respectively on the drives and jeep. There are a few places that will require 14’ 1” spacing - in those locations I will have to run as 10 axle instead of 11. I can still flip up the neck, change the king pin setting and lift the axle The difference in tare weight turned out to be only 2300 lbs.

I had to go this route because the neck on my main trailer would not support a longer flip neck, even with re-enforcement.

The additional axle will allow me to scale loads in 20K axle states that i can not currently.

Thanks Ron; you probably get tired of explaining this, but I appreciate it.

I do not get tired of it all. We all do different things and it helps share information.

Did you test load it to see if you can get 49/60?

The tongue doesn’t steer the axles, they’re not mechanically connected. The ones I’ve been around had a bigger power pack that drove it as well as steering it. I’m not sure if the operator is controlling the brakes or the pull tractor is.
