I was out of power for 22 days for isabell and 5 days last year for Matthew. I live va beach. Apparently my block is the small grid for power in va beach with only 8 houses on it. We are always the last people to get back up and running. Lost power for 2 days during the snow storm back in the winter.

I have a question. Or more of an observation, I guess. We as drivers are expected to work a 70 hour week, right? So why is it that vacation is paid on a 40 hour week? I have 2 weeks vacation which is showing 80 hours total. Last time I checked we work 7 days, not 5. So should our vacation not be based on that? Now, I get they take an average of our pay for the last year in order to get what our vacation pay actually is (and since my stuff has been so screwy, I can't wait to see how little $$ mine will actually be), but that's not the point. The point is what is the actual TIME we get off. Is is 5 days? Or is it 7 days?
For instance, say I want to take a vacation. I get 40 hours which is technically 5 days (really only 4 days if one assumes a 10 hour day. Or 3.5 days for an 11 hour day. You get where I'm going!). Now I have to have worked 12 days to get an extra 2 days for a total of 7 days? Or 24 days straight to get a total of 9 days?
Just one of the things that rambles through my mind at 3 am when I can't sleep (which is frequently).popcorn169, Lonesome, runningman0661 and 1 other person Thank this. -
No wonder it's getting harder for me to get loads off home time! So many folks living in the area! LOL
Yeah, Isobel was a bad one. Only reason we had ice and water so easily was that I was working for Smithfield Packing in dispatch at the time and they allowed us to come get water, ice and food from the plant. Plus they had trailers parked throughout the county filled with water and ice. We also rough camped a lot back then, so we were used to not having all the conveniences. Wind up radio and flashlights, propane and charcoal. We fed quite a few folks in our neighborhood. There was a lot of elderly, so we looked out for them.popcorn169, Chrisnva and MidWest_MacDaddy Thank this. -
The place I work takes all the miles driven the past year and averages that out to miles per day then pays your pay rate.
Previous place I worked paid vacation by the week not days and averaged your last 52 weeks pay and paid you that.p608 Thanks this. -
Wow!
I never thought of that; you have a good point!
It would be very interesting on how they will answer to that question. -
That's what they do here. Avg weeks pay for your vaca pay. If I had run really well the past year, it'd be okay, but I haven't so it's going to suck. At least I'll have the time off. Just wondering how many actual days it's supposed to be. Of course, knowing our company, if you ask 3 different people(even HR), you'll get 5 different answers.

As many as you can convince them to give you. I took 7 days off last year. Only got paid for 5, though. The two unpaid days were still considered part of my "vacation" time off.

I always took a full seven days vacation. Plus my home time days.
