I am brand new to the industry, I hope to be getting my own rig in just a few weeks. I have Dishnetwork at home and have been looking at the slingbox as a possibilty. I just want to see what is out there before making that commitment....Thanks

I just turned a friend of mine on to HULU. It's a web site that has tv shows you can watch for free on your laptop. He said he watched Family Guy for a while the other nite. Other than that I've seen a lot of guys with disn nets and direct tv dishes out there. Whatever works for you man.
Baack Thanks this. -
Slibgbox is a laree anoynt od data and most unlimited cellular internet packages are actually limited to 5gig and you'll use that in no time flat

i have Dish in my truck, i looked into slingbox but you dont always have 3g network every time you stop and w/out it the feed is patchy as i was told.
you can find some threads on the subject down in the electronic section of TTR. -
I have dish at home and on the truck for an extra $4.99/month.
i have the major networks from San Francisco and Atlanta through another provider. -
Native, how does that work?
and thru whom?
i have local but i cant get when i am outside of my area -
Thanks guys, I am heading out with my over-the road trainer tomorrow. I'll get a good feel for what's out there....Gnav

It is my belief that Direct has the distant networks as well and you can get them direct from Direct. You may want to double check that.
Hope that helps. The Challenger Thanks this. -
there are alot of options out there for dish network ive seen rigs with expanding booms and rotors that can telescope the dish up from the back of you're rig and turn it to the right position to pick up signal.. probibly one of the most expensive options.. cheaper alternative is go to a dish installer/retailer and buy a dish 500 $50 a dual LNB $40-50 and a telescoping tripod $40-75 50" of coaxe $?? and have them set it all up $??
then nomater where you are all you need to do is make sure you have a clear view of the south west 110degrees and 119degrees and you have reception.. you can take a receaver from home and use it in ur rig w/o telling dish aneything (the receaver has no way of transmiting data w/o a phone line) also for local channels (dish wont tell you this) but you can get local channels from anewhere you want all you have to do is go in to the receavers menu and go to setup/instilation and where prompted put in the zipcode for the area where you want to receave local channels from its a good way to keep track of the weather where you're headed or back home aswell as geting the locals from anewhere in the country dish offers locals.
if you tell dish what you are doing with it they will charge extra.. plz only use the single tuner receavers.. they dont require a phone line connection the dual tuner receavers do and if not conected to a phone line you will be billed an extra $5 a month for not having it connected.
direct tv is more expensive per month when you get byond the promotional pricing and every other option is broadband internet based/limited... tv over the internet is patchy as the amount of data to receave the signal is masive and avalible broadband options over the road cant keep up. aswell as the picture qualit is blocky, blurry, and during fast motion or action scenes its especialy aparent.
ive also seen satalite tv setups for rig use at truck stops.. these are expensive both for equipment and service from what i understand -
Yeah when Iwas out there I just had a tv and bunny ears basically, always had to reprogram it for every town I was in but it wasn't that bad. I guess you could get one of those converter boxes and still use it. At least I got most of the football games, and since they moved Monday night Football over to ESPN I don't really watch it much because I don't like the announcers. Jaws is ok but Cornhieser annoys the daylights out of me.
