Yes I did. So yes I took good care of it. That might make a little difference.

I turned over one million miles on my 09 Cascadia/DD15 just today. I bought the truck with 694K miles on it three years ago. I wrote off 26K in maintenance the first year, 24K last year, and it'll be 20K+ this year. That includes PM's and consumables like oil, coolent, washer fluid, etc. No inframe. Original injectors as far as I know.

As for engine work, since I've had it I've done a radiator, a cam frame gasket, an injector harness, a DPF filter, a DPF outlet temp sensor, a fuel pump + quantity valve, an air compressor, an oil pan gasket, an oil pump, and oil pickup, oil riser tube o-rings, and a thermostat.

If you don't mind me asking, what did you pay for that truck 3 years ago?

Also, have you been able to get a ballpark number on revenue loss during the last 3 years?

Seems with the kind of money you've spent, above & beyond normal maintenance, you had some downtime?

I paid 38K for it. I have been lucky in that I've only had one breakdown during a trip, and I got it fixed the same day. Everything else I've been able to handle either between trips or during my time at home. I haven't had any significant unplanned down time so far.

    That's good.

So would you say your cost of operation of the truck, including the purchase price, for 300k miles (3 years) is roughly 100k dollars after normal maintenance stuff like oil changes, etc?

Also, what kind of mpg do you get on that truck, pretty decent?

No but I bet its been towed 40 times, a few times over 200 miles. Gotta love technology. Second biggest piece of crap next to the 2012 Prostar I had for a couple years. Todays technology is why you have to be guaranteed wages for waiting time/downtime

Those numbers I gave you do include normal maintenance. PM's, tires, truck washes, paid parking, and everything else tax deductible are included. That also includes optional things like centramatics, TPMS, new CB, new laptop, etc.

My fuel mileage is around six. Not that great. It's a mid roof pulling a van, and I usually run the speed limit.

    I see.

What I was looking at is the purchase, plus your maintenance (repair) costs, and trying to get a picture of what that looks like if you extrapolated that over a 36 mos period.

You know, this is the proverbial discussion that goes on around new vs. used.

In that case your 100K estimate is close enough for discussion purposes. I come down squarely on the new side of the used vs. new argument, but only if you can swing the loan at a reasonable rate, and only if you are willing to buy a reasonably priced truck. (I really have a hard time seeing how an expensive truck like a 389 or a W9 can be cheaper to operate than a good used truck.)

My truck is paid for, but it has a million miles on it and the depreciation runs out this year. So I'll probably trade it next year.
