Yep. And a lot of them will get on load boards (on duty), go unload to save lumper fee (on duty) get out and polish their chrome mud flap (on duty) and then claim "All I do is check in".

The 14 hour rule needs to stay just as it is.

At first I felt kind of bad for people in this situation. Then this last week a guy called into the Dave Nemo show. He's been driving for 20+ years. He tells Dave he doesn't want any "flexibility" in the H.O.S. because his company will use that flexibility as an excuse to leave him at a dock all day and then expect him to drive all night to make the delivery. I listened to this and thought are there any MEN out here anymore. I mean really here's an adult who wants the government to control the H.O.S. so strictly so he doesn't have to grow a pair of balls and use his own judgement.

But there are companies that will do that. And if you are unfortunate to have tickets or accidents you may legitimately fear that you won't be employable if you push back and get fired for it. That's why I made the point earlier that there should be different HOS rules for employed drivers vs. owner ops.

Let's find 535 truckers and put them into congress. They will fix it fast. It might take several more congresses as the pols reclaim the place and try to unfix everything.

I am not trolling, I believe that if you have that many truckers together in a room, you have no problem in life that cannot be solved. It will whatever the problem is, get solved.

And the trucking industry, there are companies that will totally fire you for bleating about not being in compliance. Tell me this... why were you not in compliance with the HOS designed to prevent you from waiting all day and then driving all night?

I wonder how brand new drivers would feel coming into this with a fresh CDL and whatever they owe the Trucking School. They won't have experience or think they're in a position to push back; some will let their dispatchers push them around because they needed a job.

But then the HOS will limit the real men who boast that they’re never late delivering a load.
Doesn’t matter if a shipper held them up, or a major wreck or fog or a snowstorm, nope!! These real men will drive 40 hours straight no matter what to keep their record of on time delivery.

There was an argument last year that elogs were unfair to owner ops because a Mega company could repower a load to have on time delivery where an owner op was losing the ability to deliver on time by creating a legal looking log page.

But only 11 to drive. And 70 total in 8 days.

What if you just need a few more hours here or there to make it smoother or safer?

We need some drivers where I work.
But you have to follow these rules.
Never work over 12 hours per shift. (timeclock)
Never work over 70 hours in a pay week (7 days)
    Never work 7 days straight.
