Here’s one that always amazes me.

Was digging through old photos and found this little "office view" from about 4 years ago when I was hauling hog fuel.


Nice summer evening waiting for enough bark to get put into the hopper for a load. Truck was a KW T800, and with the way it was specc'd I'm glad my runs were short and involved no hills. Had a Cumminns ISM which was extremely anemic, was 350hp if I remember correctly. Single screw drivetrain and a 10 speed. Company had it permitted to 86k , but that was for those occasional "oops" moments when loading the trailer. They didn't want us loading to more than 80k.

Well, one night I had an "oops" load. Bark, obviously, gets heavy when it's wet as well as sticking to itself which can be extremely inconvenient. Opened up the hopper doors and nothing came out, but I could see the bark lurking in the hopper. Closed the doors and opened them up slowly and started "shaking" them to get the bark to fall. Holy @#$%@ did it fall. In one big, loud, KATHUMP into the trailer. Went down, climbed into the cab and looked at my suspension air pressure gauge. Was WAY past where it normally was for a "full" load.

Couldn't do anything about it at that point. I knew I was heavy by the way that gutless truck didn't want to get out of it's own way. I get to the other mill and drive onto the scales. 122k gross. No wonder I could hear that poor engine whispering "Killlll meeeeeeeee"
