    I gave you one of the best, the others you won't find, but these "super duper" radios are crap.

    By the way, I run a galaxy in the pickup. I use it because;

    a - it was almost free $4 at a junk yard.

    b - someone modified the front end and the first stage mixer with a better design. All it needed was a proper alignment and the thing is great.

    c - it seems to have good transmit.

    AND looks are not everything.

    Got to give you all a hint about cb's, the design has not changed a bit, it is all 50 years old and being very honest from an engineer's standpoint the technology used in radio equipment has passed it all by. It is s l o w l y catching up ... very slowly ...

    The radio I put out there (really was a joke to start with) seems to have better ears than most of the new ones, especially the 10 meter radios.

    Not really, there is only two thing that are needed, squelch and rf gain, everything else is really not needed.

    Oldironfan and Sgonza101 Thank this.

    I'm thinking about moving the Stryker to the house and a bigger cb on the semi.

    There are many good radios out there. Galaxy, Connex, General , and so forth. Depends upon what type of money you want to put out, and how much power you want. I run the old style General Lee, and a Superstar ELD158, both not sold anymore. They are powerful radios. It also depends on where you mount the antennas, type of antennas, and if it has a good ground. Fiberglass, and plastic trucks with non metal mirror brackets from what i have heard are not grounded properly.

    I'm using two 7ft firestick I ran a grounding wire and I'm getting 1.1 on ch 1 and 1.0 on ch 40. I just want a radio that has distance.

    Oldironfan Thanks this.

    I have zero experience with the N4 you speak of, but...
    I have run a 2970DX and a 2970N2 both were solid on AM and SSB.
    Both drove my straight 4 pill and straight 6 pill amp easily.

    If you are shooting skip on SSB go with the Ranger. Galaxy radios never impressed me on SSB, or AM for that matter...JMO

    I found a rci n4 really cheap. To my understanding it's the same as the rci N2 but it has more watts. I've also heard that galaxy drifts on ssb.
