Are APU's worth the money?

I admit i am not the brightest person out here, But it seems to me Benefits outweigh the costs tremendously! So why would a major carrier like i don't know knight refrigerated refuse to purchase new trucks with APUs installed unless theyreally don't care about their drivers???

 

Because morons like the owners and college boys running them don't know what it's like out here and can force trainees into sleeping in hot or cold trucks! But go to their office in the heat of summer of cold of winter and see how comfy they sit in their offices! If you work for one of these bottom feeders "fix" the central heat or A/C for them but make sure it's fixed so well it'll take at least a full day for repairs!

 

The government actually has a program where they will pay for a APU and have it installed as a part of the "going green program". Talked with an O/O at prime and a stand alone O/O that both went through the program and didn't pay a dime. I found it hard to believe but they showed me the sticker's they recieved to put on their truck's. No way I would put one of those big bulky ugly ### stickers on my truck though.

 

That's the key. They don't care. All they care about is a butt in the seat making that truck going down the road to make them that buck and not buying APU's to save that buck and careless of the driver's comfort. The companies that have added APU's at least have a small margin of care for their drivers but also realized that it would save them money in fuel over the life of the truck that what to cost of the APU is. Then take that APU off that truck and put it on a new truck and sell the old truck. It's all about the dollar.

 

Well, if you’re going to operate a truck with the def system, then the apu just might keep you from going out of business! The worst thing for a DEF system, it to idle! Without the apu, you are sure to idle your truck for thousands and thousands of hours a year to keep the cab cool, or warm. DEF is EXPENSIVE!

 

HBJ is correct ,. If your truck has def then a apu is a must have. Buying a used apu is a waste of time and money you'll be in the shop constantly. Buy a new one or don't even bother.

They say gotta be changed every 100 hours you can accumulate 100 hours pretty fast if you had to sit a couple days
