I met a McLane team that was unloading the same time I was. One of their drivers showed me his last paystub for 2017, and it showed 106,000 for the year. He and his co driver works 4 days and off 3 with the option of a extra day to run

Yes, mainly the grocery side. They do all gas stations and 7-11’s. They are considered the flagship of McLane. So they are the most paid. If you live in a big city there are a lot of local routes 12-16 hrs with two people. They have some long routes but not more then 24hrs out unless you live in the middle of nowhere. They get paid by the weight. There are so many gas stations and 7-11’s that need servicing in town that a lot of the long routes are not there. They barely have enough drivers to service the city and surrounding towns. My buddy said at Grocery top driver made 168k. Top extraboard made 138k. In Denver. They honestly have it easier then McLane Foodservice. They just wheel it right in the isle and drop and go. No loading freezers or coolers. If Grocery is your first Foodservice gig it will seem hard but if you come from a traditional Foodservice like my friend who came from Sysco it’s way easier.

It is very physical work, you get to run a hand dolly loaded to the max down those ramps around the customers at that store. If you are in real good shape and want to make great money it is a good job. Just if you get teamed up with someone, make sure they are honest and will share the workload evenly. They deliver tobacco products which some will help themselves to plus lots of junk food.

Wall the grocery side is doing it like that? I have been looking at this company and there is a food service location near my home that is hiring for an apprentice position but the lady there said you have to have your CDL license already and I only have my permit. From the looks of it I need to be on the grocery side but their nearest DC is 2 hours away from me.

Still not worth it even at $168K. Another thing that has not been mentioned yet is what about the benefits?

Pretty good benefits I don’t know the exact cost but for me it’s $45 dollars a check. Dental though is the only one I used. I had a wisdom tooth pulled, deep cleaning, and fillings for 150-200 bucks I paid out of pocket. 401k is pretty good also. I don’t know the exact numbers on that either. Berkshire Hathaway runs the company. So the CEO of BH is Warren Buffett. I think their pretty good at running this company financially. So your not jumping onto a sinking ship. With 55billion in revenue yearly this company ain’t going nowhere. Sysco I think is at 60billion and UPS as a whole is 65billion. Top LTL’s are around 10billion a year.

It’s a job if you want to be physical and active. Kinda like the Marines. You can choose to be a grunt(infantry) run 12 miles, crawl around in the dirt and play Marine or you can take the administration job(desk job) to have it easy. Both jobs are still Marines. It’s a choice.
