China Town,
Possibly thinking of doing teams with my dather. He's been driving for 20 years.
I just got out of school.
Is there a good company you would recommend? Good pay? -
Look for fleet fueling companies in your area. I snagged a job doing that right out of school making 23/hr 50+ hours a week. Home daily.

OP, you might wanna check out JP Donmoyer/ FT silfies. They haul dry bulk cement, have a terminal in York, PA and Keymar, Md, although I do think they want 6 month experience. But as desperate as they are for drivers, they may be able to do something for you.
Silfies and Donmoyer – Over 80 years of bulk tank truck and logistics experience -
I lost my patience a few weeks after getting my CDL and went with one of the many bigger carrier offers. I had a Hail Mary save while on my 2nd day of a mega orientation, which was my last resort - a call from a tiny local company I applied with weeks before (flatbed coil work). The mega graciously paid my way home.
I started out knowing nothing - NOTHING!!!! I was still double clutching and couldn’t straight line back with the guys laughing at me and placing bets on when I’d quit. Bottom feeder pay, brutal hours. A mere 6 months later I’m making more than any of the guys and call the dispatcher to tell him I’m ready to go home.
I outworked everyone who laughed. That was my mission.
Where I deliver locally I run into lifetime company OTR guys more often than not. They love to talk about pay. I make more than they do, with only 6m exp. I never tell them that. Bad form. I work 10 hrs a day and I’ve only 6m experience. I don’t know about snow yet really.
I still know nothing and I still can’t really back up. I don’t even bother to back my personal vehicle up. Lol.
Look for little family owned businesses in your area. Then be prepared to charm, hustle and bust your ### to make your local job ideal. It was pure torture for a bit. But now?...
I’m more than content. I made the position I have.Last edited: Sep 21, 2018
