Can you give us more detail on what exactly you did to the truck to get it back on the road and working?

Info like this is a gold mine to guys possibly looking for a new truck but balking at the prices. If one can get an older W9 or 379/389 at affordable prices after getting them road worthy, that is a bargain.

The kenworth w900 A model and the Peterbilt 359 are two trucks that are in a class of their own. I’m not saying other trucks are not worth saving but they are the only ones I know of that can sell for over a hundred grand and are over 30-40 yrs old. Buy one for 20k put 45-50k into it and sell for 135k. I don’t know many trucks that can do that other than the A model and the 359. Other makes and models are worth restoring but only for owner satisfaction

Lot of $$ for a 10 yr old Truck. Cars /Trucks 4 yrs old 50% of Orig Price.Likewise 4 yrs later 25%. Unless it’s something special.Mostly only worth what Bank will lend

Question is can you make money with it. That Truck looks good. Probably make money if you can maneuver repairs cost. Take to shop for everything it’s gonna need and watch profits disappear

Other than fuel maintenance is pretty high on the list for cost. If you can do the majority of the work yourself you'll be way a head of the game instead of paying 110-140 a hour labor + parts

Keep looking planning and pricing in meantime. When you decide what you want you’ll know whether it’s a good deal. Being familiar first is most important to avoid costly surprises.I prefer old Trucks .Personally think they peaked around 2000-2003 anything newer is IMO Over- engineered and too costly to repair. Problem is too old Parts become a problem.

Not really a new Engine $20k May only add $5k to value 1 yr after overhaul if your lucky. Truck with blown engine almost worthless under$10 k. You overhaul and run a couple yrs to recoup costs. Now your chasing it trying to make it payoff. Usually doesn’t work.always another cost. Come time to sell it’s just not there.I personally don’t believe in buying for resale it really doesn’t work.Sure some hold value more than others and that’s good for trading up every 3 or 4 yrs. But you pay more upfront also only recoup half of the extra upfront costs. Generally speaking ofcourse. I used to obsessively study Truck prices. Have helped at least 3 others find good deals in past. Main thing is you understand what you’re getting into. Better way would be the buyer after someone else dumped a ton of $$ because they fell in love with the Truck or Car Bike or Boat. Boils down to total cost of Ownership including Insurance costs and Fuel costs along with all the other stuff your thinking. But Making a profit ? Better pick Truck that will make $$$ save money and invest it anywhere but in a Truck!!!
