It's worse.
I am beginning to view colleges as places where our young are irrevocably damaged.
I don't want to say anything more than that. It's a loss to us all.

Ind0792 Thanks this. -
No, I don't qualify for welfare yet. I have too much money saved up (according to them).
-
If you have money to pay for training then I would advise to proceed. In my current class, we have students who range from 18 - 55. My school has a 100% placement but my instructor has informed me that almost every big trucking company will take on new drivers with no experience due to the current driver shortage.
-
Do they really have 100% placement or is that just what they tell you to get you to sign up?
-
The City of Toronto case worker who came by to give us a presentation of our rights while on Ontario Works mentioned that the reason my tuition is paid for by the city is because the driving school has a 100% placement.
-
Well I hope they're telling the truth. I'm just leery of forking out more cash if it's not going to get me decent employment at the end, so that's why I'm asking everyone here.
Just as an aside, I've heard that anyone under 25 will have a hard time getting insured, so may have problems finding employment as a trucker. -
You will find employment so long as you don't accrue more tickets or damage equipment. There is so much driving to be done it ain't even funny. You may need to learn to speak new Canadian if you look for work in Toronto as a high % of those companies are. Avoid those.
Any idea what type trucking you have in mind? What are your home time requirements? Wife, kids, etc. Basicly asking local or over the road (otr). -
I don't have a wife or children, but I'd ideally like to have a life away from work. Local would probably be ideal, but I'm a little flexible. I'm not familiar with the rules regarding driving hours, but I'm not one of these guys who can operate on five or six hours of sleep a day for a prolonged period of time.
