Anyone have any “tips” or “things to know” when it comes to ratchet binders?

I was screwing around with mine earlier... I’m a snap/lever guy until now. Anyone got any tricks worth sharing? Seems one end always wants to twist with the chain...

    That was easy after all...

Ended up with three holes in my tarps though... one is a pretty good foot long rip :(

The other two are easily patchable...

Sigh. Gotta go hunting for blankets or extra tarps for padding... just gotta find the room to store it too :(

The threads are probably dried up or sticking so maybe take them apart and spray some fluid film or multi-purpose spray lubricant on them.

#1 keep them lubed up and closed when not in use
#2 keep one end as close to an anchor point as possible
#3 a short bar or a big screwdriver in the twisty link will stop it (and keep it from coming loose from the chain twist). I used to carry a 10" punch in a back pocket whenever I loaded.

Assuming WD40 would work in a pinch?

Good deal... the ones I have are probably mid-way between open and closed. I’ll close them all when I put them back on the rack.

What do you mean in #3?

It will help but i'm not a big fan of that stuff. The sprays I listed you can find at any local auto parts store.
