Even more so when you have an abomination called “adaptive cruise control” to have to deal with, so it can start slowing you down when the idiot 3 miles ahead of you decides he wants to read a text message.

Im pretty much guilty of driving like this as of today. I was blowing down the freeway at 82MPH in a 70 zone and see a CHP in my passenger side window. I pass him by about a quarter mile and am coming up on a semi ahead of me. "My people," I thought to myself. Don't hit the breaks and light up the red lights--never alert them to the fact that you are slowing down. Just a slow and gradual coast to 55MPH exactly and hope you go unnoticed. The cop followed me for about 3/4 of a mile and just up until I had about 100 feet to put my signal on, I put it on and immediately turn off the freeway. Officer HardOn speeds ahead of me on the freeway, unable to pull me over. His attention span was short. I saw him riding the ### of another driver as I made my way on the off ramp, ascending up to the overpass. I decided to trail the semi because obviously, if I am cruising behind him, I could not be exceeding 55MPH unless that truck was also speeding.

I like when they follow you off an exit. You have your signal on, but they don't even notice. They aren't pulling over on the on ramp, they just get right back on.

Time for them to put down the phone, walk around, or just stay home.

They are using you as a combination radar detector, navigation device, chauffeur. This tie of year they might be trying to use you as a deer shield. A few knuckleheads are trying to save fuel by drafting you. Mostly, as in all things driving, they are concentrating on their smartphone.

Why are you slowing to 55 in a 70 zone? They don't give you brownie points you can redeem later.

I expect that to happen. What I do is weave a little bit in my lane so my headlights appear to move. This will SOMETIMES cause him to look up from his phone, notice a truck behind him and signal him to run away again. Sometimes I may ride on the rumble strip and make some noise.

You can always try posting a message to Facebook and see if he sees it.

They'll tailgate for 300 miles and pass and make an emergency exit 8 inches before their exit.
