I guess it's because their rates are so much hotter & higher than the competition?

    Northerntanker Thanks this.

I don’t know about your Canadian company but I know about LS. If you are based in Canada, LS will make sure the intrastate rules of international travel will be followed. Pick in CA deliver in US and vice versa. Yes LS has one of the best platforms for leasoning onto. Yes their in house rates tend to above average. Yes you can book yourself. I have my complaints about them but it’s no big deal I guess. You can make money there.

But as far as having to continually work the international market, idk. That would be a challenge I think. It would get easier I guess the closer you live to Windsor, Toronto, Montreal or Vancouver

Thanks for the input, that was my major concern, having enough loads to choose from out of Western Canada. I have a friend there who lives near me and he is doing ok and loves working for them. I don't mind crossing the border every few days...i'm used to it.
Still, out of all the companies I have considered, LS is still top of the list for me by a long way, so i think i'm gonna think about applying and take things from there.

Penner International, Duckerings International, TEAMS Transport.

Have 2 O/O's working with me, who went bankrupt at Landstarve running out of Alberta. They said success at Landstar, comes down to the agents. You get a good one, you will do ok. You get a bad one, you're done. Also said Trailers are a constant issue, and if you get your own trailer, be prepared to basically have a CVIP done every 3 months. Some of the offshot divisions of Landstar are better for Canadians, but the majority of their business, is focused on Vancouver/Toronto from what i'm told.

Duckerings....I have a friend there too, really likes it. Tempted to look at them too. I just want steady work, and relying on the 'luck' of finding good agents is a touch worrying.
    Again, thanks for the input.

I actually almost ended up there, with a buddy of mine from Bison (He's Loving Duckering's says its a retirement job), but I would rather do mileage + event pay over percentage. Just a personal thing, if I were to go percentage tho, It would be Duckerings or maybe CANEDA (Although the Mullen Factor is a buzz kill). Penner and TEAMS are mileage + event pay, all 3 a super busy all the time.

I also looked into Landstar, but again, the whole "Agents" thing, and the endless "Compliance" requirements were a real turn off. Also they seem to be in love with CH Robinson and other 3PL Spot-market brokered freight.

    80% of 1 Canadian dollar = .80
65% of us dollar converted to Canadian= .84
Plus you get access to the landstar network, up to yourself if you find value in that or not!

Depends where your out of and where you plan to run.
Just guessing your out of Manitoba .
Monday morning Nov 05 @ 11 am there is 1 van load on the board leaving Manitoba on landstar BCO load board .
The board is showing 16 loads going to Manitoba but 10 of those look like the same load multiple times. There is a couple good agents out of Manitoba that I know about. Most likely they have loads that never it the board.
