I was in Ohio on US35 west heading to Gary got off xit to the Loves t/s
I was scoping on how to get back on the hwy,and when I left the loves I went they why in came in on 435 to get back on to the hwy, but that wasn't the way to go. There isn't any sign that says you need to take 435 west to get back onto US35 west so what did do, I made a Uturn and is didn't want to do it but I did not want to drive 30 miles out of my way
so i tryed the easy way, after all you can see that all the other trucks did the samething making a uturn because there is NO sign to tell you where to turn when you leave the t/s. So there for no one is Perfect -
the one BIGGIE at Roehl (and most other companies) you get fired for it and it's roehls fault!?
I guess you learned your lesson and now you won't do it again, or maybe you will and you will get an even better job.

I'm not sure if you went through Roehl's "driver training center", which is where they made it clear to me that if you get caught doing a U-turn, you'll automatically get fired, but if not I'd think they'd give you a warning, unless someone called in to complain or you caused traffic to slow down/stop. I'd think they'd make that very well-known very orientation, but the RDTC was sort of the "orientation" for me. Best of luck at your new job. And I totally agree Roehl should be more concerned with the people that tail-gate, play on their laptop while driving, and scrape trailers along telephone poles. The one thing I have noticed since I've been here is a lower standard for the drivers they hire, and their strict requirements were one of the major things that brought me here.
Just out of curiosity, do you know of drivers who have had a head-on accident where they were found at fault that are still employed with Roehl? The "i guess i should have had a head on collision and i would still be there" comment makes me wonder if they'd really keep these drivers around, especially when they seem to be trying so hard to get rid of the experienced drivers to replace them with a lower-CPM driver. -

I too have been following your posts. "Bad things happen to good people." I also sensed the same thing, that you have not been accepting personal responsiblity for your own actions. Glad to hear you have landed on your feet and have another job. You say you made 1 mistake. When in reality tou made 3 mistakes. 1) You were not prepared to drive since you did not know how to get legally and safely back on route. 2) You made the U turn which is a Roehl auto fire. ( It is in your DSR. Also taught and in most states CDL manuals as a never to be done.) 3) You did not watch your trailer, dropped it off the pavement getting it stuck and incurring a wrecker bill.
You had plenty of options, With all the space there you could have pulled off the U turn, never needing to get pulled out and never have been put in this situation. Another option would have been to simply drive to the other side of I-71 to the TA truck stop, less than one mile and get turned around, as well as reducing the risk of killing someone or getting fired. People do get killed from big trucks U turning. -
I live in Florida. What's the company?
