I always had long hair before I started driving. I can't deal with it now. If I can't wash it every day, then I want it off my head.

"Man if they do away with free showers there will be alot of smelly truckers out there." That's long already been happening. lol
"If they start charging for showers quit eating in their restaurants" That'll never happen. Drivers banning together on something?? Sorry , just being positively pessimistic.

I vote with my feet. I won't fuel if there is no shower. I all ready fuel at the place that puts the most bonus points on their card.

The major chain truck stops do, in fact, charge $10 for a shower. However, buy 50-75 gallons of fuel and shower is free. Lot of the smaller "mom and pop" truck stops have free showers whether you fuel or not.

Honestly, I prefer the "Mom & Pop" truck stops. Better service, better food, and they still treat you as though you're the one who puts the butter on their bread.

That's just gross! If taking a shower causes you to go broke, then go broke. Don't bring your foul smelling person into my company. I have told others in the past to go take a shower, you stink. I don't know how anyone can let themselves go and walk around thinking, "I'm fine".

It's know wonder that america has a bad taste in it's mouth when it comes to truckers. It seems that if we are not driving recklessly, we smell to high heavens.

Come on people! There is no excuse for lack of personal hygiene! Get yourself together!

    Drive safe

So, you are at a truckstop every night to take a shower, whatever, I take a shower every, and I mean every time I can, there have been times I have had to go 2 days or so without 1, but I know how to keep myself clean. But if you are at a truckstop everynight, you must not be movein very many miles, but mabey you have a job that does not take you all over the u.s., anyways, I not a fat slob like you that smells after 8 hrs in the drivers seat, keep living the dream jackpie and try rereading my post, key words for ya, 3-4 times a week, and if your at a truckstop every night.

Well; to me it is the driver's preference. I prefer not to stink so I will shower on a regular basis. Even if I have to pay out of pocket which I have done several times. The costs range anywhere from 3-10 bucks. Sometimes I am in an area where I don't have points on my card. I am a flatbedder. I am not saying you won't see me soiled on the road. When I untarp I keep plenty of clothes on hand. I will clean up in the cab and put on clean clothes. Then I will go get my next load tarp it and if I have time I will stop for a fast shower and then hammer down till I can shut down. If I don't have time to stop I will clean up again and max out my drive time then when I shut down I will shower. Sometimes this truck stop will not be one of my fueling points and I will have to pay out of pocket.

My type of trucking is dirty hard work. You might run across me where I do need a shower from securing and tarping my load, but what you are seeing is a days work where I need to work in a shower. Not weeks or months on the road without getting wet. We all know the difference . We can smell the difference. I can not count how many times I have had a trucker walk within 10 feet of me and the body odor was so bad it lingered there. That is just nasty and it is nasty people like that; that give drivers a bad name.

I haven't showered in three days. (yuck) Spent 6 hours night before last, with my trailer clamped to a dock door waiting to get unloaded. When I left, the Pilot up the road had no parking, so I parked behind a McDonalds ten miles away.. Next morning I got to get up, make my appointment, 6 am. I get there get loaded, try to pull away from the dock, the trailer win't air up. Blown brake chamber. So I call my company, they send a guy out who shows up 2 hours later. He takes the brake chamber off, says he doesn't have the right part, and has to go get the right one. Two hours later he comes back and puts it on. It's now 2pm and I've got to be in Big Island, VA at this awful paper plant by midnight. I get here at 11:30 pm. At 2:30 am I get unloaded. I start my ten hour break. Of course I'm up at 7:30, and can't move yet. I'm in the woods, no shower in site. The James river is flowing behind me, but I imagine it'd be kind of cold. When I get out of here, There is someone in Cloumbus, Ohio patiently waiting on me to get up there so he can take this load, so if I'm lucky, and the Pilot has a spot open to park at around midnight tonight, I might get to finally wash my ###.

Anyone who says there is no excuse has never been out here. If I had my way, I'd shower every day. The job makes that impossible. The only time I have time to stop and take care of such things is when they give me a long load and I can pick where I want to stop for the night. Most nights I have to settle for whatever I can find. I carry babywipes, and I never let my hair grow more than an inch long because I can't stand being funky. Sometimes you just have to make do.

The thing that bugs me most is the strict 50 gal fuel purchase rule for a 'free' shower. Come-on, who is the genius that thought to enforce this policy with the rigor it is at some stops?

    Case in point:

I happened to park in full view of the last/end pump slave side... In about an hours time, I saw 3 company driver guys dump 3-5 gal./each, of fuel on the ground just to get up to the 50 gal. mark for the 'free' shower.

Then, when I fuel I have to walk in it...! :biggrin_25516:
