I was referring to being leased to Acme. They keep a lot of the revenue.

For me, a gut strap goes between stacked units, a choke or belly strap goes across the deck under the units, then gets thrown back over from each side, preferably to a winch on each side so you can tighten it properly.

I carry two 50' or 60' straps for this purpose.

Terminology varies. If you mentioned "dressed" lumber around here people would think you were gay, we call it "surfaced". You guys call your 4X4's "dunnage", to us they're "stickers"

Okay, here's a reason why you use padded pipe pins...

...last weekend I did a circuit from OK to Carlsbad, to Midland, to OK. I got a weeks worth billing to haul a load of casing to a rig in Carlsbad, then haul a load of BROKEN casing to Midland (cracked and sagging as they went on the dunnage), then haul another load of casing from Midland to OK.

Why did I get this shot at high tarrif freight, and WHY did the shippers and receivers take pictures of the load? Because some self centered mindless #### didn't have padded pipe pins!

Do you realize what the burn rate is for an oil rig? It's over $250K a DAY. When I arrived at the rig near Carlsbad it was QUIET. None of the 4500 hp engines we're running. Nobody was on the deck.

    Why?

Because the casing they put down hole fractured. They had a hell of a time pulling it out. That rig had already been down for TWO DAYS. That's why they took all the pictures of the loads inbound and outbound at each stop.

Somebody or some company is going to get fired over that fiasco. Sure, you can say you aren't going to put up with BS from whatever situation, but seriously?

Broken casing that isn't detected can cost men's lives. Fortunately they found the problem and managed to fish all that crap out of the hole.

I've never been so nervous getting a load of casing on my deck as a couple days ago near Carlsbad. I thought some or those 45' joints would crack in half.

Pad your ####ing pipe pins. Follow the customer requirements already...

Slowpoke KW, cke, Blackshack46 and 2 others Thank this.

I don't have any idea, other than the shippers and receivers were totally anal retentive about taking pictures of the loads. The company man at the rig said there's a strong argument for someone loading casing on unpadded pins.

    That's all I know.

I DO know that the next time that company man needs casing out of OK, my company will likely haul it. We don't take short cuts.

No way a flimsy piece of plastic pipe will make a difference.
    Sorry...... still absurd.
I don’t haul pipe anymore. Never hauled much to begin with mostly directional tools. Now I haul mostly well head.
Padded pipe stakes are still worthless unless you are hauling coated pipeline pipe.

Don’t get me wrong if the customer says pad your stakes then you do or don’t haul it. What I am saying is it’s an industry wide act of stupidity. That thin plastic most use is of no use.
