    Hey guys,
    I am looking to get as much feedback as possible regarding my new business to cater exclusively to owner ops. Feel free to ask as many questions as you would like

    Here's the idea: mobile PM service (cheaper than shops and quicker), clear codes, force regens and cancel DERATE, or "limp mode" using dealer OEM software. All services performed will be done to manufacturer specs and by me, a former Rush Peterbilt mechanic.

    Why: I've been on a semi since I was 14, with my father while doing online school, but unfortunately had to get off the truck as he went to hauling hazmat. When I worked at Rush I saw owner operators were treated, and the poor service they received- this wasn't right and I knew I could do it better, quicker and cleaner, all while beating their price, keeping you out of the shop, and being able to perform any diagnostics and clear anything they can- and coming to you.

    Feel free to ask questions; I have planned a bunch more, but feel an essay wont benefit anyone.

    ok so have you been to any OEM training for say Cummins or Mack?

    Your software, is it legally licensed?

    Did you ever think of just getting your own shop?

    Yes, I have completed Cummins and am going to complete PACCAR prior to my business starting.

    The software is legally licensed, as it comes from the manufacturer.

    Further down the road I might get a shop.

    I wish! I'll be starting in Colorado and hopefully, through the power of technology, be able to perform regens, remove codes, etc remotely.

    If you actually know Paccar. Throw out a few national ads or mailings. I know at least one mega carrier that will retain your services almost immediately.

    Cuz Kenworth #### sure can’t help them, with anything. So I’m not too sure how that whole software thing would actually go over.

    I'm not going for mega carriers- the premise of this business model is to help owner operators avoid shops, save time and get better service.

    The software can be found on paccars website- it is called Davie4.

    I'm not familiar with national ads- I'm a mechanic. I work on whatever needs worked on. I will make sure to familiarize myself with the ads. I'm new to business.

    You need to expand on the education part, what Cummins engine matters, and with the other ones out there that you will come across, having some certs for cat and Mack/Volvo will help.

    and your investment into software should be around $5k to $10k for OEM stuff.

    I am being picky because these are two things that I have had to deal with, work from a mechanic who was clueless to what the engine was all about and they used pirated software they got off of eBay saying it was legally licensed. The latter was why things got screwed up with one truck, it wasn't easy to unravel.

    We are a relativly small fleet of about 30 trucks (10 company owned, 20 o/o leased on). We have a local guy here in TN that has a similar service. He will come out to our yard or meets drivers at truckstops (or wherever) to do PMs, truck/trailer inspections, alignments, and light mechanical work. This individual gets ALOT of business from us because he is fast, flexible, and reasonably priced. Having someone that can do these things on short notice has been a boon to our productivity and truck utilization.

    I say all this to let you know that there is a need for the services that youre offering, especially for small fleets like us. If you do good work and make yourself available on short notice and at irregular times, I think that you will soon have as much business as you can handle and will be making great money too.
