    Common Core, right?

Just meant to confuse the heck out of you. No real purpose in the real world.

Not sure what it was. She was drawing these tables and dots and some other symbols. The kid is in 4th grade.

It's not the truck that's desirable. It's the freight that's in the wagon that they want. Stealing the whole thing just makes it easier.

    That is common core garbage.
They have the kids making tables and squares to divide the numbers by, instead of the simple way we did it.
Our way, we could do much of it by simply thinking about it.

Their way, you need a whole process of complexity of boxes and dots to reach the same answer.

Common Core and Carnegie Math are terrible, horrible teaching methods that reinvent the wheel and a child that Knows arithmetic and symbolic manipulation of numbers and variables (Algebra) and the Reasons why someone would want to solve for a particular variable could Fail if they didnt show the Right work if they were tested by a computer, or an underpaid over educated computer babysitter.

The weird tricks that some so called preparatory classes offer are tricks using mere artifacts of base 10. Other base number systems would have weird tricks to do certain calculations- yet None of these assist with algebra (symbolic manipulation).

The only tricks they need to know is being able to look at an equation and favtor it by Knowing their multiplication table. If they cant do arithmetic in the most simple way, one column at a time, just like an adding machine, just like a computer does, then they are Lost. Multiplying the old way, dividing the old way, too.

Teachinh to estimate a sum in your head then figuring out modifications to get the right answer is a waste of time.

Practice arithmetic until you can at least Add in your head a single column of single numbers at a time and you have the fastest most simple method of addition.

if you pick up estimation n correction on your own thats fine- but its useless to teach.

Computer and adding machines add in binary or decimal a single column at a time and then proceed to the next with whatever carry is required from the previous column. In digital logic, the propagation delay of say 64 carries is nearly instantaneous but it Does take time for the process to "settle". They dont use tricks to add. They use a cheap trick to suntract but thats another story based on the fact that its binary math.

Carnegie Math and Common Core need to be abolished by merely posting the SAT scores of a school of students educated without those methods. Unless the test is biased, in which case I suggest stealing off to the internet and downloading freely published tests of previous years for math and other subjects for various grades from the Commonwealth Nations and letting both groups attempt them to pass. I guarantee the ones taught using common core / carnegie math will do less well than those taught how math actually works and why instead of tricks of estimation and such.

BCD (decimal math encoded in binary) still operates one column at a time and uses No tricks like estimation etc that Carnegie Math teaches. The most simple way is the Fastest way, the Right way.

I dunno but if whoever it is isn’t calling themselves the International Man of Mystery they’re really screwing up.

If I had an International I’d park it downtown Detroit doors unlocked and with the keys in it
