Ugh... why does RM use the Mini USB plug instead of the Micro USB plug??? I lost the cable to connect it to a PC/Mac and of course all I can find are the Micro USB cables.... guess a road trip to Best Buy is in my Trucks future.

all old Android devices are using Mini USB, now they switched Type C.
Most windows CE devices are using Micro.
i have the adapters from eBay for

    Micro to Mini
    Mini to Type C

    I was venting not shopping.

My point being, everyone else in the electronics industry uses the micro plug... what on earth would possess a technology company to use the mini plug... and yes, I don’t have the newest model but nothing has changed in this area in the last three years since I purchased this tech.

Seems like a silly choice, but yet I still hold onto hope that RM will simply make an App for their maps instead of peddling more specialized and proprietary hardware to install in one’s truck... lol

Can you imagine selling a Word Processor Program and requiring people to buy a special dedicated computer to run it??? LOL

am i correct? the PC/Mac connection cable normally come with a (new) device on the market from Samsung, Huawai, Apple...or Rand McNally.

I am not referring in any way about the USB-A standard plug... but the other end... the Mini vs Micro plug... I am saying that any tech company that uses the Mini plug is simply making it difficult for their customers to find a replacement plug for their product.

Example: I currently have like 5 micro usb plugs in my Truck... but all are useless as my RM 730 uses the mini plug ... so now I must go out and buy yet another patch cable to update the maps in their product, which I am willing to do... but one can not easily grab one as they are not commonly available in the marketplace. I can’t find them in Truck Stops and Walmart no longer carries this style of plug either.

Monoprice has them for a buck, but they won’t deliver to my truck... lol

So, in conclusion, I think it’s silly that any tech company would implement the use of such a plug when it is no longer a standard and hasn’t been for many many many years.

I hope that clarifies my position on this. :)

Sorry, back in March my left eye developed a condition whereas I see double. It has taken me about 4 months to get used to it and as such my time in front of the computer has been severely limited. Even balancing a check book takes me about an hour or so. It was supposed to correct itself, but has not. Surgery is in plans.

I do miss responding to you the Professional driver.

Now for the 2nd and sadist part. I am no longer employed by Rand McNally as of the latter part of November. It has been a fun and exciting 9 years on this site.

If I come back it will be as an individual, but my ability to have "in-house" contacts will be very limited. So, I have to do some deep thinking in how I want to continue on.

As for as MATS/GATS, it is up in the air if I am contracted to help with the shows.

Again, I still have my E-Mail for those who wish to communicate with me in regards to your TND. I can help with software, but hardware will be limited.

    Thanks,
    Mark

It's planned obsolescence by RM. Mini has a rated lifetime of 1,000 insertions. The mico has a rated lifetime of 10,000 insertions.
The only reason to currently use mini is to force a new purchase when the old one breaks.
