whats the up side of switching from lp22.5s to tall22.5s

upping size in theory could do many things...
1. Ride Better
2. Taller (less aerodynamic)
3. Corner worse(more side flex)
4. less steering response
5. Less wear on ft end bearings(in theory, less revolutions) -
11R tires can carry more weight. They ride a bit better, but 24.5 low profiles ride about as good while still having most of the benefits of 22.5 low pros.
It depends on what you need to accomplish for weight carrying and durability; 22.5 high rubber will carry more weight rating than 24.5 low profile with a similar similar circumference.
The truck I am driving would probably be more accurate at the speedometer and odometer if the tires were replaced with 11R 22.5s, I think the truck may have been equipped with them from the factory. -
thought i might get a little better fuel mileage with taller tires.also lower rpm,s thanks walt

Taller tires = less revolutions=less rpmsfor same roadspeed=better MPG.
You will lose some pulling power,though. -

The typical truck tire is 41" for 22.5 LP, 42.5" for both 22.5 tall and 24 LP and 44" for the 24 tal. As has been mentioned the LP is going to give better ride whether 22.5 or 24 however due to less rolling resistance the 22.5 wins for mpg's.
I have a listing of site info that I can pm to anyone interested so you can do the math yourself. As to the less wear on parts that is one for the Mythbusters. LOL -
My opinion 100 rpm over the life of an engine seems a huge advantage!
Can you live with less torque / power,,, I would say yes if you have plenty or an excess to begin with ? And no if your allready under powered.
Ive struggled with the same decission stay with my lp24s or go tall 24s. My 475 ISX engine/13spd, to me is a little weak at 850,000 miles and im only getting 21 lbs boost from my turbo. -
My truck gained that when I went from tall 24.5's to low 24.5's so I would check your #. Any tire with a taller/softer sidewall will give you a softer ride. The LP might handle a little better in the turns but at the expense of the ride. The stiffer sidewall will help mileage but the increased rpm might cost you as much. That last statement depends on the engine as some are more sensitive to rpm than others. IMO

Not to mention that going to the taller tires will cause you to have your speedometer and odometer re-calibrated lest you want to receive a bunch of speeding tickets.
