We had a guy at work who invested several hundred dollars so he could have the big radio on our 120 mile linehaul runs LOL. Only problem was nobody wanted to talk to him because he was an a-hole LOL.
I've got a Cobra 29 Classic on a factory installed 4 foot Firestik and it works fine. I can send and receive up to about 5 miles, depending on the other guy's equipment. -
OK I'm not really into the big radio thing, my 15 year old cobra 29 does me fine. However, I sometimes think about how this stuf works, and I have a question for the experts.
Let me lay this out, and you tell me how it works:
Lets say I'm talking on my big radio, and its puching out to someone 20 miles away. Now that big radio, however the power is pushed up, can push its signal farther than a stock 4 watt'er, I get that much.
Now the guy I'm talking to 20 miles away, he hears me fine cause I have all that "juice".
Now lets say he has a stock little radio. He can only push out to 10 miles back towards me. So while I can talk to him, he can't talk back right?
So what I'm getting at is, I can improve the output, but there is not much that I can do to pull in others over a stock radio with a good antenna/tuning right?
So whats the point of having a big radio that can puch far out if no one can talk that same distance back to you?
Did that make any sense? -

I talked all over the country with my Uniden Garant XL and Orange 4 foot Firestik.
You know those orange antennas get out further..............LOL -
wondering if you remember Hi-Gain V from back in the day? -
Korey, If I put a microwve transmission line up will that help. I know I need heavy guide wires to keep it up there. I bought a 4'' 20 ft pipe, and a 3.5 20'' pipe to put inside of the 4'', I'm having trouble getting the 1000 watt mic up there,The wind was blowing here and my 40 ft ladder against the side of the barn was really skaking along with my knees. and you know what? i could kill that microwave, the door blew open right in my face. I better hire an expert,i might get killed trying to setup my microwave tower. Some how I think I am misinformed. What do you think? Am I beyond help.
