Fleetwood Of Oregon rv trailer plants in Pendelton and La grande Oregon are closing their doors for good. They built fifth wheel and regular travel trailers, I was working for the company that made the frames for these trailers, another driver and i delivered the frames, i made it a hour from the shop, received a call to return to the shop with my load as fleetwod called and are closing the gates, permanantly. The employees of fleetwood were to be told the bad news about 30 minutes after i was told. There were over 200 workers at the Pendelton plants and over 100 at the La Grande plant, also 20 of us at the shop where i was working till today. Fleetwood says it will only be building manufactured homes and motor homes from now on. The economy strikes yet again.

Its never good to hear that a company goes under especiall when they employ hundreds of people.

Fleetwood closed plants in CA , TX , and MD quite a while ago . I hadn't heard about Crawfordsville closing . http://articles.latimes.com/2008/nov/25/business/fi-fleetwood25
I see Campbellsville , KY close a while back too . http://www.rvtravel.com/blog/canada/2007/05/fleetwood-rv-plant-has-closed-in.html
The Bennett people in Campbellsvile , Crawfordsville , and Hancock , MD were good people . I could actually make money working for them . I hated going to Bristol . But Fleetwood and Bennett made a lot of money with those thousands of FEMA trailers that are still sitting in storage .Last edited: Mar 9, 2009

The company i was working for Alko Kober just had a new shop built in La Grande and was to move there from caldwell idaho at the end of the month, this puts a big halt in the plans now, so guess its back on the road for me as there is no local jobs available.

Fleetwood has been having major problems during the last year.
It seemed that the Oregon area was still able to make and move them. But I noticed that the freight available from them had been dwindling. -
They closed down the plants in both places for 2 1/2 months from november to january, then was down again last week, now down for good,, more workers for the unemployment line now,, i as well,, dang.

The market in the RV industry basically put me back in the big truck last October. I left the big truck because not running illegal at the end of January. I then went back to the RV hauling and had one load in February. Switched companies and seem to have a little more freight. I belive it will eventually put me out of business as well.

All i can say is this BITES BIG TIME, so many people out of work after so many other places have closed all ready, i am wondering if we are headed for depression number 2.
-
Could be. There was some unstability in the RV industry in mid 2005. It is a descretionary market. Many economies that are in this way have been having fluctuations over this long period.
There are areas of this country that are really hurting. There are others that you can see that are having no problems. I do not know what could be in store. -
