Cleaning and maintaining ratchet binders, what do you use?

Are you pulling an open trailer?

 

What do you have for binders? I'm just asking because I've never seen my dad use anything on his regular old snap binders.

 

I keep a squirt can of gear oil for my ratchet binders. They get oiled and closed after every use.

 

1st choice - Amsoil MP
2nd choice - Amsoil Chain Lube
Or, if your more an Amazon shopper - Fluid Film

PB Blaster is great for freeing up some seriously rusted/stuck things but it's more a solvent than a lube so it will require a lot more application than a lanolin based protectant/lube. A lanolin based product will do little to absolutely nothing for freeing/cleaning something that's already rusted up - stuck.

I prefer lanolin based products for this type of use because they attract much less dirt/dust than oil based lubes.

Auto zone carriers it.

 

Although I don’t use chain binders because I haul cars I use fluid film on my strap ratchets.
I have tried many different products over the years and although many will free up the ratchets nicely it is very short lived.
Fluid film is the only one thing keeps them free for a considerable amount of time.

I just use a silicone lube, a quick google search make sure ur boss aint over ur shoulder or the wife , a different kind of lube shows up lol i usually just spray em after every use and close em up...if ur like anybody else at my company then u never lube em up and let them cease up...the last driver of the truck im in had 16 binders and 7 of them was brand spankin new not even a paint scratch and they was fully ceased up ... I have a bunch of old ones with all kinds of surface rust but i keep em oiled up everytime i use em and they work like new

 

Good step one. Now that they are clean use a lube to protect from rust and to lubricate. There are plenty of suggestions on good ones.
