Gaps only need explanation back the first three years as you are supposed to list every employer back three years and, if applicable, every driving employer back for another 7 years; that's where the ten years thing comes from.

One caution; every roadside inspection with the company name and DOT number is listed back three years on your personal PSP report along with any accidents reported to the DOT [you would be surprised how many are not!] back 5 years.

I know I often see companies that are not listed on the application showing up on the PSP reports....

You have DOT to worry about. They are constantly reviewing. Constantly sending letters to employers.
DOT has nothing to do with dac, psp, or points. They ignore that.
The history on driving jobs is important to DOT. It’s a matter of national security. If someone doesn’t report a driving job. No matter how short. They wonder why?
I’d let my present employer know, if I were you.

Don't sweat it. Keep driving. If they don't like it go somewhere else. Keep your record clean and search for a company that works for you. Good luck.

Agree, it's now after the fact. If you get caught, no big deal; plenty of other companies will hire you.
If you tell on yourself now, you'll be fired. Just wait it out and keep your fingers crossed. This isn't as if you committed some major crime and Interpol is on the lookout for you.

Sorry China I didn't see this,

To the op, leaving it off to me is you're trying to hide something and your app is rejected right there.

A lot of companies have this policy, they do a check with former employers, they ask for start and end dates and if there is a gap or something doesn't line up when that ask other employers, the app is rejected.

Decades ago it was not too closely tracked by those who were more fly by night and took in anyone with a A license.

Eventually everything has evolved into what you see here currently with the employment history needing going back 3, 5,7 or 10 years and will be checked against dac etc.

Another layer that is sort of shadow is called black listing. One company in indiana has me black listed but as per indiana law any of my prospective employers in trucking I apply to, will call this particular company from my applications employment history. Then hear on the telephone from operations that I am BL'ted verbally but as long it is never in writing it is lawful in Indiana to state so against any previous employee.

Since it has been more than 10 years for me, should I apply to run a big rig again to any motor carrier, that entire employment history is literally history. A blank page. One simple sentance 10+ years medical patient. I have zero experience. Just like someone who is 21 and attending trucking school all over again for the first time. And it will go through pretty quickly for myself.

That ends my post explaining on topic question of employablity versus a hostile previous employer you would like to not mention in your future applications. After 10 years it matters not anymore.

Another possibility is the fly by night outlaw companies literally implode, cease to exist and there is nothing to check that time period of being employed, no one to call. SO it's not counted as experience. So several bad employers killed themselves off my history this way.

What matters is no gaps in your activity in time.

As one sentence side note to type one time for everyone, I survived the surgery this week. I was essentially dead and on life support for two hours while they continued to work. Got me back. (And successfully fixed the problems) So after a time of healing and thinking over this whole situation Ive made changes to posting. I'll still tell a story now and then, but will leave nothing for moderators to do where possible.

So you were just minding your own business doing nothing wrong and your carrier just up and fired you? Then by your own admission proceeded to falsify an application! Your hiding something.

I worked for an outfit for a week before I realized I wasn't going to make any money sitting around in New York City out of hours so I moved on and did not put them on future job applications and even though I only worked for that outfit a week, they still put it on my DAC report that I worked for them and any future employer is going to wonder why I did not include that information on my application if I do not include that information. Withholding information could be grounds for not hiring someone.

40 years ago there were not all of these computer databases. Insurance companies maintain them. The DMV too. The FMCSA has their MCSAP data. Then there is DAC (and the other companies that provide this service). A carrier has many different ways to do those investigations mandated by part 391. I spoke to someone I know back in my hometown several months ago. His local company got audited by the FMCSA. he told me the very first thing the auditors asked for was a place to set up and access to the driver qualification files. Because this company does not do OTR they got into the time records and looked at other information. This audit was after an IRS auditor came in the property and started checking tax records. Followed by "sticking" tanks looking for red fuel.

The point of my comment is these carriers are under a lot of scrutiny from Federal and State regulators. If they discover you have lied (and have a history of lies) they really have no choice but fire you. Keep this in mind next time you see a question on an app!

if ya use auto-fill check things out closely!! when filling out applications, stuff it fills in is more that likely something you
would not have entered , and in my case the results hit my DAC with in a couple days. but am happily employed again
