This thread made a crazy turn I didn’t see coming. Anyway decided to pass on the Benson. I looked over a Mac the other day real close and I liked it a lot. Only 3 things that bother me about it.

    1. I don’t like the black stripe down the entire side.

    2. It does not let you slide the winches over the rear tires. It makes the last 3-4 ft of the trailer absolutely useless for securing with a strap unless you dig out pocket winches.

    3. I believe they are a bit heavier than compatible reitnour maximiser or big bubba.

#1 --take a heat gun and peel the black stripe/sticker

#2 All the trailers I've owned have this problem. not saying one doesn't. You can take bolt out and get a little more winch travel and drill new hole for bolt which is what I did.

#3 Not sure what the problem is? Lol Unless you mean what they weigh less.

I have a Reitnouer MaxMiser and over both rear axles you cant slide winches over them. On the first axle it's about 3 feet and the rear about 2.5 feet. You'll get used to getting out your pocket winches or ratchet straps.

I never would put them over the tires anyhow but I would get them semi close with my old trailer so it was a little bit of an adjustment to make.

Do what MJ does and what I’ve done too, use a short chain.

It’s the winch side that’s the issue. My current transcraft lets me slide the winch directly over my tires on the rear axle. With low pro 22.5 tires and the air completely out on the trailer there’s still a 3/4-1” gap between tire and winch. Ratchet straps would work but I don’t believe they provide the same tightening power as a winch strap. You probably couldn’t even get it half as tight.

I guess I’ll just have to deal with pocket winches.

I don't even carry any other straps. I go around a spool or go diagonal just in front of tire on one side to just behind tire on other side. I'm sure some won't agree but it works for me.

Had to do that with an oversized tank I hauled out to W Tx but it was because my straps weren't long enough. Didn't think about doing it over the tires. Thats a good idear.
