If it snows reduce your jake setting and slow down. Expect extra stopping distances. Use your power divider if you are breaking traction. If it's really bad lock your differentials. Bear in mind your pretty much not going to be able to turn with full lockers in. You will have a much harder time with traction while empty. If you are partially loaded, load properly with most of your weight on the drive tires. I drive milk tanker, I will take extra caution to load the front compartment first to accomplish that. I stress slow down as well.

I might only be a local guy but I'm a local guy driving a milk tanker in western NY winters. We do not shut down. I am well versed in winter and snow truck driving

Milk tanker is smooth bore so how can you load heavy on compartment front?

You are correct about it being smooth bore but most of our farm pickup trailers are two compartment smooth bore. Each compartment holds 36k of product. This arrangement reduces surge let's say you have 40k of milk. Load 36k in the front 4k in the back then you have almost no surge. It also makes it much safer for winter operation. You can keep the weight mostly on the drive tires. With a single compartment trailer if you go up a steep grade with a partial load the weight transfers to the back of the trailer. If the snow and ice on the road is bad enough you can find yourself in big trouble. If I had to take a single compartment trailer and the roads are bad I will go around the steep grade.

I have had to take a single compartment trailer in extreme cold last year. The pipe that feeds the front compartment runs underneath the rear compartment and it can freeze making it almost impossible to unload at the plant. I took the long way around the steep grade I normally drive up.

I hope this helps understanding what I do.

Exaggeration in the pursuit of a good story is a virtue.
