There's three of us working on the farm, and all three of us bring our dogs. The dogs have a ball, we get to work with some companionship.
Driving is similar. A driver is not at work for 8 hours and then goes home for 8 hrs of personal time with family, friends and animals. An OTR driver is away from his support system for days, weeks on end. It's not just another job. Very few people can function well without companionship for long. And pets are healthier and cheaper than lot lizards.......
Another consideration is safety. The wife of one of our drivers insists he takes the dog with him, after an driver got beaten to within an inch of his life on the local rez. If I want to keep that driver, the dog is going.......
Pets ? Really?

It is what it is.
Some people need all types of companionship and animals mean everything in the world to them
Some of us. Could care less.
Me personally. My only animal resides on 2 wheels. And the only time it takes a sheet. Is when it's time to change the oil.Badmon, homeskillet, Coover and 3 others Thank this. -
Guys many of you miss a point the op is trying to make.
I have had applicants tell to ****** ******* because of my pet policy - no exotics.
I have a list of pets people wanted to take with them.
The oddest was a rooster - the driver wanted eggs in the morning.
Ferrets, snakes, lizards, and a bunch more.
I have a strict no brat policy, your kid has to be at least 15 to ride along. No younger because of safety and I've had one driver quit over this when he wanted to take his wife and 3 year old alongJoeyJunk, Swiss Mountain Dog, bzinger and 1 other person Thank this. -
Ridgeline, seems to me you have a no-livestock policy, rather than a no-pet policy.....
kylefitzy, Swiss Mountain Dog, bzinger and 2 others Thank this. -
Let's not forget.
Many shippers and receivers don't allow pets.
One company I worked for. Lady had 8 dogs on her truck. Those 8 dogs added 2,000 pounds to the truck.
Pulling a tanker. And not being able to distribute the weight. That's not only 2,000 pounds less on the truck. That's also 2,000 pounds on the trailer. 4,000 pounds less load she could haul. That's 2 tons. That's over 550 gallons she couldn't haul. I can't remember if those loads paid by the ton or gallon.
And those tankers had no baffles. Anything less then a full load was some serious sloshing around and surging.bzinger Thanks this. -
I don't care if you bring a Komodo Dragon.
striker, Omega1, flood and 1 other person Thank this. -

I would go with Godzilla. People ask who your talking to..."God". You can could say you walk with "God". "God" is with you in everything you do. Pets...always entertaining, even if their 50 foot apes, or 50 foot giant lizards. If this string of puns offends you...lighten up. Clearly the big guy has a sense of humor. He gave us politicians.
Bring your own goat. You would be doing a service whenever you stopped. Think of all the litter that would get cleaned up, and..recycled.
I like my dog more then I like most people. Hell, I like Dave's cats over most people an I've never even met them.
