Its time for a new TV at home. Due to space restrictions we can only go with a 60in tv.
So its either LG or Samsung.

We have never had either brand. Looking for recommendations as to quality.

    Thanks!

I'm a fan of Samsung however you can't go wrong with either. It's really going to be a comparison between the user experience and aesthetics and whether or not you own other LG/Samsung products and want to buy into that ecosystem when comparing standard LCD televisions. You should only be looking at 4K TV's at this point.

If you are considering a premium Samsung QLED or LG OLED, then the differences in performance can be significant.

All Samsung LCD (non-QLED) televisions 40" and larger use LG LCD panels. When you get to the QLED range, they use Samsung's proprietary Quantum-Dot panels. In simple terms, QLED is essentially a standard LCD panel with exceptional performance.

LG however offers OLED. OLED panels do not use LED backlighting as each pixel is illuminated. The image quality from an OLED panel is the best currently available and this is very visibly apparent. There is one major issue however - they suffer from image retention and burn-in. Where a standard LCD panel suffering from burn-in can be 'reset', this cannot be done to an OLED panel and the damage is permanent.

I play video games and they always have stationary elements on screen. For this reason I did not even consider OLED when shopping for my latest TV. If you play games as well, the top shelf Samsung TV's now offer AMD FreeSync.

I can't say anything about Sony because I refuse to buy their garbage. Way too many bad experiences with all sorts of Sony products.

Wait untill the prices start dropping for the QLED 8k tv's.

And maybe this new ota 3.0 that's starting to come out. I"m not up to date on it and hope it won't require a box like the digital signal thing did. But it's in testing phase for a couple of markets right now. So it won't be tooo long before other markets start jumping on the band wagon.

Well after all was said and done, we ended up with a Vizio P 55-F1. Found good reviews and will see how it looks after a week or so.

We have a 6 year old 55" Samsung that has a lovely picture, a 2 year old 55" Sceptre dumb tv with an equally nice picture and a 4 year old 50" Vizio smart TV - it actually has the best picture of the trio. All have terrible speakers.

In October, I put in two of the new Bose 700 soundbars with Alexa integrated _ the sound is amazing and worth every penny if you have a large room with good accoustics.

Speakers appear to be getting better these days. But there's software also.

Example: I have directnow streaming app. My tv is a tcl roku tv. Volume at 40.
On my amazon firestick. Directvnow. Volume at 25.

Sometimes I think about some speakers. One day. It might happen.
