Are the newer trucks really that bad, no longevity anymore?

This comment puts you lower than a steering wheel holder. For Christ sakes if you can't even do that why bother trying to be a trucker..? Give it up holmes..

i have always thought the C15 and 3406 were one of the best trucks engines ever built, after running trucks with both i dont put the paccar in the same category. i dont think the fuel efficiency is any better when you take the DPF system into account. i guess time will tell. too bad cat doesn't make truck engines anymore.

grab gears or go home i say...... i signed up to drive a truck not let the truck drive me. shifting is fun, makes me think and gives me something to do. i didnt sign up to drive a car with a tail on it. that fully automated truck, i hope its decades away..... like long after i am dead and gone. i hate the idea. i think the act of driving a truck is one of great joys of life. nothing better then piloting 100k lbs of loaded stainless steel tanker at highway speeds.

    Is a new Truck better?
    Is an old truck better?

It's all personal preferance. I wouldn't own a new if you gave it to me. Others wouldn't own a older truck if you gave them one.

Some like to sit back and let the truck do all the work, the shifting, have no road noise, extra creature comforts, & no chance at fixing anything that goes wrong with it without a man in white lab coat..

Others like the rumble of the side stacks, the puff of smoke when you hammer down, grabbin' gears like there's no tomorrow, the lull of the road as you cruise the world bye.. Wake up in your 36" coffin bunk, & open the hood every AM & actually see that beautiful piece of iron painted green (insert your color green, white, yellow, tan, black w/red top) & actually knowing the parts I'm inspecting each AM are 98% of the time going to be good to go another day. Grab your loose leaf binder, & hit the dusty trail..

But like I said, we all have different taste. To each their own. Happy New Year & safe Truckin' y'all..

Like that open the hood thing. Getting to be fewer and fewer that don't even know what they are looking at, when and if they even open the hood. May add that some, or most "hoods" when opened you can't even see the engine. Just wires and sensors, and air filter box. Are newer trucks more trouble? One way to look at it is..the more wires, sensors, relays, plastic brackets, more filters (including fuel and exhaust) other things not mentioned..the more trouble you will get. My humble opinion is "they" don't care if the trucks made lately go over 5 to 600,000 miles. Trade in get another new one and keep the banker in business. But like said, each to their own.

It doesn't make a difference whether you have a new truck or old truck. If you take care of it, it will do what you need for it do. It doesn't make a difference automatic or manual, if you take care of it, it will do what you need for it to do.

You guys want to know something?

All of this talk about old iron is misplaced when it compares to new trucks.

Older engines didn't last a million miles as the norm, one reason why we don't see 6v71s running the highway - they stopped making them in 95 by the way.

I know a lot of owners who had to overhaul their engines at 500k and this is old iron.

I wonder if carpenters sit around and talk about how everyone should still be swinging a hammer and how using a nail gun is for the lazy new breed of carpenters?
