Long ago in the 90's we took our bobtails wherever we pleased. 6 states away if need be. Just needed to be back at the loaded trailer and gone on schedule sunday for monday morning delivery anywhere Chicago east to roughly Alabama to the coast.

Fast forward to our time with FFE and we had enough land with adequate gravel support for the tractor trailer, but the tractor stayed at the house when we were home. It does not move a inch or run until it's time for us to leave out. We had excellent neighbors so cranking at 2 am on a thursday to meet a monday Am somewhere west was not a problem.

We were not home that often, generally we stayed out all year. Passing by the house often, as in once every number of weeks for a hour or less just to assure it's condition. About three times a year we go home for a few weeks and that thing will sit quietly the whole time. We had no need of it until it's time to go.

Like has been said, all depends on company policy AND if the ELD has a PC button(mine does not)........When I was a greenhorn running for Jerry's Kids,I dropped a trailer in Rapid City and bobtailed all over the Black Hills for a weekend. They never said anything to me .
