Not necessarily. It’s possible to get that. Especially if you run all around Cali and never fuel there. Considering it’s 6 months also maybe they threw in some fees and penalties. Who knows what you owe ifta without going on their site and doing it yourself. A lot of it could be Penske.

I just quick figured it, if he bought his fuel in NY and ran most of his miles in PA, his bill would be just short of 4 grand, now if he bought his fuel at certain Reservations his bill could be a lot more. So it is quite possible

Maybe I haven't read it. Were you operating under Penske authority or your own?

It's like if you lose a gate parking ticket or toll ticket ... you will automatically be charged the highest possible rate upon exit. Its not that hard to keep all your fuel receipts and state mileage records (or GPS/Elog/EOBR data) and turn them in. They have to have these for reporting and audit purposes so it stands to reason they have to implement harsh penalties on those who can't or won't do simple tasks.

This was found on Arizona's website for those who refuse to deal with an Omnitracs type system that accurately logs data ...

Cali at .70 per gallon is 5700 gallons. So at 6 mpg say that's 34285 miles. If you drove that many miles in Cali and ran that and Oregon and only bought fuel in Oregon you'd have a $4000 bill. For a relatively simple example.

Could post a pic of the bill they want you to pay. Just edit out whatever details you don't want everyone to see. Should be fine. Then we could give better answers.

It' is more than possible, it is very likely that guesstimate is less than the actual bill is going to be. Very rough estimate. 3 weeks out 1 week home
    2500mi x 3weeks = 7500 miles per month
    7500 X 6 months = 45,000 miles
If you didnt turn in any fuel reciepts. Then as far as ifta is concerned you havent paid any fuel tax. Now every state is different. But let's say it averages out to .15per mile
    45,000X.15=$6750.
Now maybe nobody at penske TOLD you that YOU had to turn in fuel reciepts. But when you picked up truck , you signed on the screen. Had you of read all the print before signing. Ypu would have read that requirement. It is also on the paper work they gave you. On the back of the page. Penske has to report and pay ifta and they are not gonna eat your bill. No big deal turn in copies (keep original for tour taxes) of all your fuel reciepts. Then depending on where you run, and where you bought your fuel. You should owe very little or none.

    Bean Jr. Thanks this.

That sounds accurate if your run the road to the moon and back... obviously it's a typo and just a mistake on their part..

They’re gonna need fuel receipts and mileage for each state. Sounds like he expects them to average all miles. Some States will do that no problem but You over pay if only ran a few miles there. How can they bill him if they have no idea where he ran? Sounds like they’re billing him worst case scenario because he didn’t keep track. He’s got some math to do Id say.

I once rented a Penske while mine was in the shop. Ran 1500 miles bought fuel and filed ifta like always. He has to be under someone’s authority. Not Penske, somethings awry here.
