I am getting ready to start heading out on the road and i trying to get my need list taken care of. What is the standard size fridge for most trucks? What do you guys reccomend, the plug in coolers or fridges? I'm trying to stock as much healthy food (i.e. veggies, lunchmeant, water, ect)

I'm running in a FL Century, and got a great fridge from Lowe's - it fits perfectly between the drivers seat and the bunk. I walked into the store knowing exactly what I could fit into the space I had. If you buy something before you know what kind of space you're working with it's quite possible to end up with something you can't use. For example... there is a vertical frame member behind the driver's seat in my FL that limits the maximum width of the fridge. Didn't realize that until I had pulled the cabinet that it replaces.
Also, I'd suggest something with a freezer compartment that is separate from the refrigerator. The cheaper combined units are hard to keep defrosted. -
Do you have any brand/models suggestions for the ones that have sep. compartments? Any good stores/sites to get them? -
EmersonSC Thanks this.

I started with the plug in coolers. Summer temps are very hard on them. They are all rated to only drop x degrees below animate air temperature. The humidity and even AC can cause them to freeze. They also pull a lot of power for a plug in, I had several meltdowns and blown fuses.
I found a web sit Compact Appliances. They have a number of units to choose from and usually with free shipping. Do measure the area and leave room to pull it out and space to breath. I got a 2 door 3.4 with a true 0 degree freezer in stainless steel for approximately $200.00. It fit easily into three trucks I have had. A Volvo 670, Freightliner Columbia, and an International 9000. It worked great; I got to have Ice Cream on board, Swansons Hungry Man TV Dinners and more.PharmPhail and dinger Thank this. -
I'm curious where you would put this in a Volvo 670?

Only A/C ones I've seen that would fit in the cabinets are the norcold brand. Too pricey though at around $600. Don't know why all these other brands can't make a skinny tall one. There's lots of room in the market for more brands to compete.
