Good morning everyone, I am looking for advice on what to do with my situation. I was coming over a bridge into a small town a couple days ago slowing down to the oncoming speed limit of 35mph. As I crested the bridge a town officer pulled me over for driving 15 over the speed limit, said the limit was 25mph. Sure enough after he went to his car I looked in my mirror and saw the sign in the opposite lane, I was parked next to the 35mph sign I had seen coming up. I didn’t see the 25mph sign which is 100% my fault. I’m not arguing the ticket at all as I made the mistake. I’m just wondering what my course of action should be at this point. For reference, I have a 100% clean record up until this point. Thanks in advance and please, no ridicule, we all make mistakes and I missed the sign, I don’t have a habit of speeding as it’s just not worth the risk.

there should be a phone number on the ticket, maybe the county court clerks?

call them and say YOU WILL pay the fine, but for a reduced charge, light inop headlight, inop tail lite, no license plate light, etc..all they want is the money..

if the clerk cannot do anything, ask for the county prosecutor's office, make the same spiel....

What city/state? Often a traffic attorney can do wonders, they normally only charge around 150$.

Definitely hire a lawyer if you can't handle it yourself.
15 over is considered reckless driving and you can lose your job over it.

I'd call a traffic attorney... I've gotten a couple of tickets reduced when I hired an attorney

I got pulled over in Boise once for 47 in a 35. I turned off a 45mph road and must have missed the sign. I did pretty much what was suggested above. I called and made it very clear that I wasn’t looking to get the fine reduced at all, that my only concern was how it would show up on my MVR. They worked with me and when it was all said and done they got their $270 and my MVR just said “local speeding 35 zone”.

Once in a while fines paid in cash to the cashier window of the Police Station before the Law Officer that issued it had a chance to make a report to that case number... is treated as a donation to the teddy bear fund and nothing more is said.

I generally pay my speeding fines. I try to do it quickly so that the officer who issued it will see that it's closed, nothing further needs to be done.

I've gotten dinged in one o' them "small towns", too.

Either you go to court, or get a lawyer to go for you.

Used to be you could get it knocked down to "parking on pavement", or some bs charge. They can't do that anymore,so I'm told.

You're gonna get convicted of speeding unless it gets thrown out. So you gotta feed the bear, but do what you can to minimize the damage to your CDL.

Thanks for the replies so far, I was in Merodosia, IL. I’ll pay the fine, that doesn’t concern me, it’s just the long term effects I’m concerned about. I work for my family (3rd generation) and have already discussed things there so I don’t think my job would be at stake. I’ll start looking for an attorney Monday, that’s what I figured my next move would be anyway.

Fight every ticket you ever get. Call an attorney in the region where you got the ticket. Chances are the lawyer knows the judge or plays golf with the DA. Let him hash it out in court.

I got a speeding ticket a few years ago in Gallopolis, OH and contacted a lawyer in that area. He couldn’t get it removed but he it got reduced to 59 in a 55 and 150.00 fine with no points on the MVR.
