I just want the ham ticket so when they do make them illegal in trucks ill have an excuse to have it. It aint like a state trooper is gonna take the time out of his day to go through the channels on my export radio.

And legal really means nothing to me if my dodge had the power to run a 1kw linear i probably would.
-
I run an export myself, don't have a ham ticket, and was just trying to say that it is a waist of time to get a ham ticket just to run an export on the CB bands.

I dont know what gadfly and the other hams on this sites problem is because you cant talk across the parking lot with 4 watts. I guess they want us to use smoke signals to talk to each other.
-
Just put them in your circle, or your friends and family!! LOL
-
your kidding me right????? i have talked for 2 miles with a stock 4 watt cobra with a lil wilson antenna! -
OboyOboyOboy! TWO MILES!!! GEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!
I do happen to live two miles exactly from the interstate...and it's amazing how many radios become heard when I get about a mile from it. Very many of the drivers can't even talk to my base station from the big road. I can do about 70 miles (to Dalton Ga.) at night with my mobile barefooted (28 watt swing) and usually about 15-20 miles in the daytime on Sesame Street. -
Well the reason why you can't get across the lot is because of all the rambos that are running 500 plus to try and stomp on each other.
My connex has a knob to control the output. For the most part I have it turned down especially when I am parked and need to talk to someone quickly on the other side of the lot etc. Out on the road I tuen the power up about half way for the most part unless I am really trying to reach out.
On a bad day with alot of rf noise I can be heard clearly more then 25 miles away. On a good day I can easily reach 70 miles. For the most part it doesn't do any good unless the other driver is running a higher powered rig. They can hear me like I am running right next to them but they don't have the umph to reach back. The good thing is that the guys I run with and talk with run higher powered exports. -
I know how ya feel. I've never had anyone to my knowledge cuss me for stompin' on their convo's because even on the rare occasions I turn on the footwarmer, I let people talk. My barefoot probably doesn't bother anyone because my modge is just around 90-100% on the swing. It would jump up if I shouted or got too close to the mike, but I prefer to be understood.

The problem is, you CANNOT use those so-called "extree channels" above 28 MHZ. Period! While it is illegal to operate ANY export on CB and CAN get you into trouble with FCC, you still cannot under the law USE the so-called "export" radios either ON CB or operate them ON the amateur bands using voice modes between 28.000 and 28.300 at ALL. This is reserved for Morse Code and digital modes, and an AM export will NOT operate those modes. And the hams will NAIL you when they HEAR you operating up on those frequencies using the usual CB lingo and stuff anyway! They will track you down, record your activities, and turn you in to the Feds. Why? Because they follow the rules of their service and they will not allow interlopers to spoil it. Unlicensed interlopers are NOT welcomed and will be aggressively sought out and reported! Stay ON the CB band whatever you do and do not venture into the ham bands at ALL!
The laws are simply that you MUST use a regular CB radio (whether you like the power or not) ON CB and, if you choose to become an amateur radio operator, you MUST OBEY the rules of THAT service when operating there---including the equipment rules. Simply put, you CANNOT MIX THE TWO!!! Just because might get a ham license for all the WRONG
REASONS doesn't mean you now have a license to break either the laws governing CB radio and amateur radio as well!!! IT WILL GET YOU INTO MORE TROUBLE INSTEAD OF HELPING YOU IN YOUR CB ADVENTURES!!!!!
So if you DO decide to obtain the ham license DO it for the RIGHT reasons! Study the rules of BOTH services carefully and KNOW how they both operate so it would cause you grief!
