CB etiquette and use protocols

And then someone else jumps in and calls us all a bunch of crackerheads!

 

Years ago I would have advised you to simply listen for a couple weeks to learn the language. Now it will take longer.

If you google 'CB Slang' you will find slang lists but many of the terms are no longer in popular use or the meaning has done a 180, ie 'Good Buddy' .

A few years ago my brother-in-law and I were in separate cars on a road trip so I loaned him a handheld radio so we could chat on the trip. I'm sure he had never talked on a radio and he kept calling me 'good buddy'. I had to pull off at the next 'pickle park' to tell him to stop saying 'good buddy' lol.

Just talking plain English works the best. Unfortunately many trucks dont even use their CB radios anymore so just because you holler at 10 different trucks and get no response doesn't mean your radio don't work. I work with a lot of guys that have been trucking for years and know all the old trucker slang. I've found being respectful to them and trying to listen when they have good advice makes them like me a lot more than a bunch of hot air.

CB lingo is largely for being sarcastic these days.

 

Nothing wrong with CB lingo. Some of it in use still. 10-4, 10-36, 10-20 are about all I hear any more.

There’s more a way of speaking that’s prevalent. One way with dicks in Joisy, and another with the meth heads along the Ohio River nearest WV, OH, & KY.

Or farther west. The Catholic Germans in Kansas aren’t that much fun, but from about eastern central Texas all the way to the Atlantic, (sort of between or contiguous to IH10 and up to IH40) I’ve had the most fun. Just listening or even joining in. Dixie, baby!

Rush hour in any giant city can be entertaining. The laughs when you need them most. Chicago in a whiteout on IH80, anyone? (My favorite was when we learned the three-truck wreck was caused by an ex-Swift truck pulling . . .

. . an ex-Schneider trailer).
