This jewel here, my first OTR truck mathematically was a triple digit truck. 400 BC3 Cummins, 5x4 Spicer 2 stick and I don't remember the rears however using old school math and a calculator it "should" have topped out around 109. The only way it would get there, if it could get there would be bobtail, down a hill with a tail wind. I pushed it over 85 a few times, no idea how far because that's where the speedo quit. I can say with certainty that probably never got close to 3 digits though.

1. I am a driver with a CDL license and a business to protect, 3 of the guys riding with me do too.
2. I have a crew that’s following me and 2 chase vehicles.
3. I have new riders with me.
4. My bike stands out. Big time.
5. Some of my guys are wearing patches. They will stand out.
When you see these idiots ripping through traffic, cutting people off, then slow down, and speed up, slow down, speed up, like a giant accordion, it infuriates the cars. They start getting aggressive. Bad things are going to happen. So, my group is going to behave, ride in formation and run a constant speed. If someone wants to pass, go ahead and pass. Doesn’t hurt my feelings at all. And we always get through safely.peterbilt_2005, Slowpoke KW, johndeere4020 and 18 others Thank this. -
All this talk of high speed travel got me on a trip down memory lane. Once upon a time me and a former friend (long story) did a run out west on BMW murdercicles. Somewhere in NM on I-40, due to a software glitch to be sure, my gps recorded a 155 max speed. It stayed on there for some time. Although, if I recall, a while back I began to worry what might happen should this technological wonder someday become known as "evidence" so I cleared it. In any event, I decided to dig it out. Amazingly it still works, considering it's nearly 15 yrs old now. The former record was in fact deleted. I don't know what happened in the mean time. Maybe I loaned it to someone else? Dropped it off a tall building? I can neither confirm nor deny it, but I know the answer.
BTW the alleged earlier record was possibly achieved on a '07 K1200GT. Essentially a sportbike with side cases. It was mad fast. When it hit 6,000 rpm it would start making real power. Enough you'd look downrange to see what might be within a mile and possibly become embedded in. If you were a professional rider on a closed course doing such a thing, of course. LOL
Level of fright achieved has a lot to do with the handling characteristics of the vehicle chosen to do that with. When I was a lot younger and dumber, I may or may not have done such triple digits on a '74 Kawi Z-1 (that I still own) and a buddy's late '80's 900 Ninja. Those two were scary at above legal speeds. The BMW on the other hand, was like a hot knife slicing butter. Truly demonstrated the advances in stability and handling (and brakes) of two wheelers over 4 decades.
In the big truck I like to set a low bar. My speed limiter is set at 75 for legal defense purposes. I probably only ever get close to that if I'm heavy going down a grade and get to daydreaming and don't get my feet off the dash fast enough to brake. Heroes just make everyone else look bad. Plus, do it once for someone, then they take it for granted and just expect it all the time. Who wants that?Slowpoke KW, 7-UP, johndeere4020 and 17 others Thank this.
