Uh no.
New trucks are trash is exactly right. DEF problems all day everyday! Companies that have a good size fillet with manufacture approved techs stock all the fed related crap in stock! Go ask your local techs what problems they run in to.
Are the newer trucks really that bad, no longevity anymore?

Lol. It’s not quite that black and white. Not every small fleet or owner operator runs old trucks and not every small fleet or owner operator that runs a new truck has issues.
Bean Jr. Thanks this. -
I don’t think anyone is dumb for running an older pre emission motor. Some of these new ones have bugs right out of the box. It costs money to be down but at least it’s under warranty. Those are few and far between. Emissions motors had a bad reputation and made even worse by the whole Maxxforce thing. If you look at 2015 and beyond and especially 2017 and beyond, these things are much improved over the older ones and require little maintenance, also get outstanding MPG. I’m running the new A26 and have been very impressed. If you’re running a pre emission motor or seeking one out based solely on the assumption that these new ones are broke down all the time, I don’t think you’re dumb, just misinformed as to how much advancement has been made.

You know anybody who's got about 4 or 500k on one yet, not tthat that's anywhere close to high miles or anything, but do they make it that far even without serious issues. -

The other Cummins truck was a 2013 and it had loads of problems. EGR system, turbo, and horrible fuel mileage. It’s all about maintenance. That one was a large fleet truck with no APU and high idle. Bare minimum preventative maintenance.
Do the intervals the manufacturer publishes, run oil samples, and don’t idle it and they’ll last a long time.Accidental Trucker Thanks this. -
I put an Amsoil Oil Bypass system on it and after the first 250 miles the oil is clear and only slightly dark. I can read the hashes and letters on the dipstick. Usually it’s opaque and black, like any other motor. I’m excited for the first 20k mile sample.
