I didn't like any of the choices but if I had to choose one I picked reefer.
Two trips per month as a solo driver and it's the most laid back job you could ever do running Coast to Coast with lots of free time to go sightseeing.

Lazy? Wow! I have done a lot of reasearch & looked into lots of companies. You have no idea how much work I have put into looking at other companies & putting in applications with them to make such a statement. I would love to go with a better starting company but I have issues that aren't allowing me to do so at this time which is why I asked about these 2 companies that gave me the green light so that's why I posted the question about them only.

I am just trying to go with the places that said yes bkuz I don't have the luxury of waiting due to my personal & financial situation. Yes pay is better at Swift but I have heard good & bad things about both. My question was directed to people that have driven for these companies only, but no one reads or follows directions...they just respond. I guess people just want to crack jokes & put down a guy who is trying to make the best out of a bad situation and I will probably get talked to by another admin for my response but it's just as well I get off this forum anyways bkuz not many people are responding who should be in a way that is helpful to my questions & situation.

Yes, bkuz I can't get a passport right now even though they have drivers who work for them who don't hold one & ain't planning on getting one. Guess they're grandfathered in & it's a new rule.

    Seriously? WTF?

I have a passport. But can’t get a load to Canada to save my life. And we run loads every day.

Aside from that there are dozens of companies that don’t require a passport, hazmat, TWIC, or any other useless paperwork.

If you truly want to work for one of these companies. Get a loan from family or friend. I think I paid $30 for my card. The card is accepted at the border. I can’t recall exactly. I got the card and the actual passport, then had them expedited.

It only takes a few weeks.

Just a side note. I think Real ID may replace this in the future. But only for Canada and Mexico travelers.

Card? Get what card & where? I asked a recruiter at Prime if there was anything else I could do to get on & didn't really get anywhere. Once she knew I couldn't get a passport she seemed to not be available or able to return calls or emails.

I know there are other companies that don't require all the extra, but I also don't have the greatest MVR either. No DUI or anything like that, but it's got me turned down a couple times which is why I am having to choose between a rock & a hard place unfortunately. Other places I could've got in required me to get my own way there, plus food, plus lodging or it was always something. I don't have anyone to get anything from so this is why the 2 options suck. Believe me I have asked & done my research. These 2 companies were not in my top 5 if I could choose or could afford to pay for school myself.

There are 2 types of passports. The card, which allows you to enter and exit Canada and Mexico. And the book, which allows you to fly and travel internationally.

The standard passport (book) is good everywhere. Unless you’re banned from entering a country.

Here’s a link for you explaining the fees.

You’ll only need the card for driving. First time filer, $65 total. Hope that helps.

You’ll need 2 photos as well. That’s easy to get. AAA can do those, as well as others. I think I was charged a $10 fee at my local newspaper for mine. ;) Strange place I know. But we do what we have to do in the deep woods.

You learn just enough to pass the DMV test. Your real education will begin the first day of orientation, should you survive it.
