That shouldn't be a problem at all.

But as with anything, we're in a down economy. Just be careful what company you go with, and what you accept as pay.

You can make that at .25 a mile if a company has the miles. Most pay a lot more than that.

You first few months will be discouraging. But your pay and milage will increase after you get through the training phase.

Many 1st year drivers make over $40k gross.

I've read a lot of posts by drivers only getting 1000 -1500 miles a week at $.30 a mile . Many more both experienced and inexperienced out of work and unable to get hired . Many that were working terminated for minor violations that carriers would have overlooked a year or two ago when there was a driver shortage . Now there is a growing oversupply of drivers .

Been there done that, many a year.

You have to keep in mind though. If you are married with children, you will be supporting 2 households....your truck, and your family.

Average cost/expences for a driver who doesn't have the needed appliances on his truck, about $200 a week. Then the rest can go home.

You can live on much less out here. Just take the hit up front, for the things you'll need. They will pay for themselves within the first month, easily. And always buy things you want/eat, at other places NOT truck stops.

A DC powered cooler, or an invertor and mini fridge.

IF the company you go to work for allows a large invertor, 1500 plus. You can stick a micro-wave, coffee pot, and a whole host of items on that will help you save money.

    As an example.

First weeks cash lay out. Invertor, fridge and microwave. About $400, along with about $100 worth of groceries. Total $500

$100 worth of groceries can easily last 2 weeks. 2 weeks later you shell out another $100 for groceries again.

You've spent $600 that month, and will spend about $250 per month every month afterwards. Instead of 6-800 dollars each month.

I eat outside the truck occasionally. I enjoy a real breakfast too much not too :D

My husband takes a butane powered hot plate on the road for daily cooking. For a treat, he carries a small propane BBQ. He eats a lot of PB&J too. He send 90% of his paycheck home, 10% onto his Comdata card and he has more than enough money for the road. He has become a soda drinker now that he has become a driver. I try to purchase all the packs of soda on sale at home and then send them with him. Sodas are not cheap at truck stops or even at Walmart.
