Sorry I missed this. I did email him back. I didn't have much in the way of nice things to say. I did thank him though for the opportunity to screenshot a direct contact with Garmin and share it with their customer base/potential customer base. All in an attempt to show everyone to stay away from these crooks. Brand new GPS and they refuse to fix software issues for whatever reason. It's laughable
Garmin GPS is garbage

I will agree with the OP on this.
I just got home after a 10 day tour and my replacement was here. (The one I paid $350+ for extra but will get credit when I send the old one back)
It's a 785dezlcam. .. not the 580.. but they have software issues, too.
20 to 1 this one has the same problems.
I'll pop a gasket with them. -
Well just to give you a heads up. To get a little bit of extra information, just to shut up a certain someone up who won't read. I just finished calling Garmin again and spoke to a manager and a supervisor. The 580 is outside its software maintenance time interval. The way my GPS is right now is the way it's going to stay indefinitely. My issue, and the same issue with any Garmin is not warrantable. The only option they have was the send me a different GPS and wait for the software update to come in which it may never come in in the time frames at that GPS is under its maintenance interval. So long story short they're not going to fix it. -
HighwaySuperTramp Thanks this.

The brand new replacement had 3.30 software in it and I had to immediately update it before I could do anything with it.
When I got the original, it was installed with 4.30
4.40 is the current software.
I don't understand how that happens.
That unit is not that old.HighwaySuperTramp Thanks this. -
I think Garmin [and perhaps soon RM] are adjusting to a new “map format”. Don’t hold me to this but from what I’ve seen of this current generation, they seem to be trying to include new features that will go beyond simply adding new POIs. It will be like a hybrid GPS with mapping and live services database access kind of like Google Maps but they have to build out their own proprietary system with some help and cooperation from Navteq.
You might do yourself some good for now by disabling the “Foursquare Map”jammer910Z Thanks this. -
I've noticed the Foursquare is something that's pushed to the forefront in everything they do.
I don't need that crap.
I need proper streets and turns.. bridges and clearances.. es todo! -
It still wants to route across Montana 200 by default instead of 90/94 with routing set to fastest. I don't mind running that way to break the monotony and during summer but that should always be a secondary option for a truck profile. -
Up til now, (or at least recently) the mapping software for Garmin, Rand, Qualcomm and Peoplenet was all from Navteq. I don't know if that has changed or when it may have happened. overall a pretty good system. all systems have their issues. -
I've had a dezl560 for as long as it's been out. And bought 3 others as well.
I treat all GPS units as a tool, I do not rely on it to guide me down the road.
It's helpful for my 30% questions.
You'd be better off using a marker on your laminated map to put notes on truck stops. To be honest alot of these buildings don't move. So if your through certain areas you can pretty much find them again.
Goodluck driver on your adventures with new tech.
