yep as I understand it you are...

All my last companies trucks were newer gliders (2016 and up) bought from Fitzgerald with pre 99 motors and all were exempt..
I've personally been checked at least 3 times since the new breed elog went mandatory...

    no issues

How do you prove to the guys checking that the engine is pre 99???

On the valve cover the reman engine says nothing about original manufacturer date , only reman date.

All I did was show them them the engine serial number..

Most of them don't know what they are looking at anyway.....We also had documentation in our permit books showing build date.

If what is said here is true, meaning that after the year 2000 truck if you have an older engine in it, you are ELD exempt here's a question.

Is it legal to swap an older engine into a 2000 or newer truck, even a mechanical engine? Does the title have to be reconstructed? Somehow I think the answer to this is no, but...

Well I've been trying to get documentation from Detroit for my reman series 60 in my 2016 glider but all they can give me is the reman built date. The new serial number only shows the reman build date. Not sure how you guys are doing it

My truck has a reman engine from Detroit Diesel, with a reman serial #. The decals that were installed when it was assembled in 2008 had faded so much that California CARB officials could not read them by 2012. I contacted the dealer that had installed the reman engine, which was built to an EPA 1999 pollution specification. He ordered and installed a new set of decals for $125. The reman engine has no connection to any original new engine. It is a completely separate entity legally as far as Detroit Diesel is concerned. The original engine core ceases to exist when it is disassembled because the various parts are either scrapped or rebuilt to any number of specifications, and installed in all sorts of engines or parts.to be sold in the Detroit Diesel parts distribution chain.

To reiterate. The dates of assembly, repair whatever has nothing to do with it. It is the EPA model year pollution specification that the engine was built to that matters.

This my friend is one HUGE grey area. I have a buddy with a 2003 Sterling. The series 60 valve cover on it states it is an EPA 1999 engine. He is not running an ELD, he has been checked and not given any hassle. The previous owner stated to him that the original engine was damaged, and they installed an engine from a wrecked truck, a fairly common procedure.
He and I are certain the truck was not built with that engine. How far you can stretch this point I guess is between you and Barney Fife....

    yes...
I personally know a couple guys running newer motors that have been given a facelift so they look exempt but really aren't. So far none have been caught or bothered. How far can they stretch it ? thats hard to say !

Many people run this set up and claim they passed inspections without problems. I also have the same set up (99 engine in 2003 truck), but I have not been inspected yet

I wonder if there are regulations for what year truck you can repower with an older engine. Could it be the trucks that began with the emission controls?

I don't know that a glider is the same because at least in Pennsylvania that has a reconstructed title. The rules really are confusing.
