Nobody is excusing the officers. I am speaking from the point of view of a truck driver. CYA. I’ll say it again, if you can’t see ahead if you, slow it down and be prepared to stop for the unexpected. In this case, the cluster of cops sitting in the middle of the road is the unexpected.

lol, the 1st cop car is the one that ended up sideways. (you see the 2nd cop car at about the 13 second mark of the video with the pop up light bar on the roof, its the one that ends up with the crunched hood and isn't the one that's sideways on the road.) It looks like the 1st one reached the scene and moved into the light snow on the left side of road, creating the white out that led to his buddy rear ending him and causing him to go sideways.

Visibility didn't look that bad until the 1st cop got into the dust. You'd think that would be a good clue for the second cop and the truck to ease up.

Too bad the speed isn't visible in the video so we could see how fast he was actually going. There comes a point where you are as much of a danger to other drivers because of how slow you're going. Looked to me like he was going about 35, at what point do you figure you're a threat to 4 wheelers going too fast for conditions? I know there's lawyers who'll come after you in court if somebody rear ended you because you were "going too slow," especially if there's a minimum speed.

All I can say is this to follow up with my earlier post. If I can’t see 100 feet in front of me in snow covered roads and white out conditions, I’m dropping my speed to where I know my truck can stop at the first sight of an obstruction. Even if it is 15 mph. This guy was going to fast for zero visibility but yet some people are justifying it. I’ll stand my ground on this one. Snow covered roads, big truck and no traction, to stop. As a trucker you need to come to grips with reality. This asphalt cowboy had his music blaring and acting like he was on a summer time road on the home stretch. Slow your speed to achieve stopping distance on a snow covered road with no visibility. He still was maintaining too high of speed and didn’t back off once the cop cars disappeared into the whiteness. Wake up people

This is why WY troopers, emergency, and service vehicles all have CRAZY bright red and blue lights on them... You can see them a LONG way off even in whiteout conditions.

Ive been in whiteout before. It's not fun. The best speed is zero with the ones that paint your windows white to the point of not being able to see the hood or your own mirror etc.

It would have been better to know there was a storm up yonder and not be in it at all. But who am I to say...
