Shipper holding your license until your get the BOL?

There is a huge difference in showing proof, and allowing them to keep a copy with no controls where that copy is stored.

Heck, I'm more than willing to even let them jot down my license number, but put my foot down on wholesale copying. Or it getting out on my hands for then matter.

 

We used to run into this problem when we picked up a new trailer from the manufacturer. They used to ask for the license to make a copy. Now they ask to see it and put the license number on their copy of the bill so they know who stole the trailer if that turns out to be the case.

 

I don’t worry about it. What are they going to do with a name and an address and birth date? Send me a gift on my birthdays?

 

Well, send themself a gift under your name and credit anyway....
With that info it's not hard to get the rest of the required info to identify theft.

 

Identity fraud is exactly the reason.

 

In 2013 I had my identity stolen. Trying to explain by email to the bank that it is impossible for me to make charges in Chicago Illinois considering I was in f****** Afghanistan....$7,000 racked up, it took me about three months to get it all resolved and I still have some of the negative effects of it on my credit report to this day..... So yeah they don't get my license, these security personnel are paid like nine bucks an hour, it'd be very easy for someone looking to steal identities and say hey man I'll give you $20 for every photocopy license you can give me.....
