I feel your pain, but the world is still turning and sounds like you have the right attitude. My first screw up running for someone other than myself was forgetting to fold the wind deflectors in on the back of the trailer while positioning to bump the dock. They will knock a dock door inside out and upside down and cause you to spend 4 hours of your precious time fixing it with an irate client gnawing on your butt every step of the way. It also provides a certain amount of entertainment for the guys back at the yard for an extended period of time and they let you know it even after you leave employment. Get back in the saddle and make a ride!!
Took out a road sign on my CDL road test today...Now what?

You had plenty of room to swing wide and not hit that sign. And I would say that's not a sign, that's a warning signal. Had it been a human they would be roadkill, a baby, pushing up daisies. You failed to keep your situational awareness and you destroyed public property.
You are done as a driver. Wal Mart is hiring door greeters right now, great pay excellent benefits.
You do know I'm messin' with ya right? If you learned from this lesson, that's all you can do. But if it happens again........you're very close to done then.Dumdriver, bryan21384 and VinnyVincent Thank this. -
Road signs are nothing to worry about. Be gratefull you didnt take down a light pole or kill a fire hydrant.

Now, you already know this. But, You need at least two lanes to make a right turn....either from the road you are turning from, or the road you are turning onto....preferrably the latter.
You have to stop and let the oncoming cars go, until someone hangs back and lets you go. Someone will let you go, about 1 in 10 drivers are polite. I was at a somewhat busy 4 way stop once driving a day cab, and I made the right turn and the 45 ft trailer was going to hit the stop sign, so I had to backup and get into the oncoming lane....cars started backing up to let me through.....they could all see the problem.
Was in St. Louis, With a sleeper cab and mt 48 ft trailer, I pulled up to a red light on a 4 lane, in the right lane....And was turning onto a 4 lane with a center island. The light pole was a little close to the curb...and it had a big cement base. I was blocked in by cars on the left.....had cars behind me. So when the light turned, i pulled ahead and ran the left front tire up on the curb, and the drives too.....I inched forward ever so slowly and the trailer barely cleared the cement base. I should have hung way back on the light, so I could move left half a lane before starting the turn.... I won’t make that mistake again. -
My personal favorite was low hanging power, telephone, and cable lines
I feel like I may be part of the reason they started hanging them higher lolTexas_hwy_287, bryan21384, Pumpkin Oval Head and 1 other person Thank this. -
In his case if he folds with this thing, he will really fold with what is actually on the road waiting for him. He has really nothing to worry about if he passed the road test for his cdl, I don't see it stopping him outside himself stopping him, the reason for my comments. -
UturnGirl and VinnyVincent Thank this.

It stinks that it happened but you can do this. Deep breaths Vinnie.
@Ridgeline annoys me. He is everywhere on ttr declaring how perfect he is and has always been. To him I remind..Pride goeth before a fall. -
I don't want you drivers to be screwed or fail, I have a different way of doing things and with my drivers, they seem to like the idea that I will back them up so they don't get screwed over. -
Everyone screws up it just happened very early. Now if you keep screwing up then you might want to rethink everything. Don’t be in a rush and you can stop and back up as long there is no one behind you.
Now there’s probably supertruckers who claim their million milers but probably side swiped a trailer parked it and got away with it and didnt get caught. Like I said everyone has probably screwed up but some just never been caught.Last edited: Jan 23, 2019
