I have been at ABF for over 10 years and I would NEVER tell a friend or relative to come to work at
    * * * MY TERMINAL * * *. ABF is a wild card and some things very greatly from terminal manager to terminal manager. The one in North Carolina may be completely different than what I am experiencing. Our board is * * * HOG BOARD * * * which means the most senior man rested with hours is dispatched first on extra board runs.

We had two guys quit back in September. One did not work for 10 days because he was always getting bumped by senior men. At many terminals drivers are allowed to "PASS" when it is slow and have a day off while letting a junior somewhere down the hog board work. My terminal manager will hear none of it for allowing a senior to have a day off when it is slow but one of the terminals that I drive to is famous for letting drivers drop a run.

You would need to talk to someone at the terminal that you are going to work at that has been there three years or less to see how it has been going for them. If that terminal manager allows drivers to pass on runs and there are seniors that like a day off when they can get it, then perhaps it could work out for you.

My terminal manager is scared that he will not be able to hire drivers in our area so he will tell them what they want to hear instead of telling them the truth. When you talk to the drivers at the terminal that you would be driving out of do ask them how they like the terminal manager.

They cannot stop you from smoking in trucks just remember that if you are a road driver you will be driving a different truck every NIGHT. You will not see much daylight until you are ready to go to bed when most people are starting to work.

I’m in Chicago and Fedex Freight is always hiring and they need driver apprentice me too. They can’t keep drivers or is there high demand? Just curious.

Remember that--"at the moment." Make sure your concerns are being heard at a higher level, in a respectful, non-snitching way. Corporate can't address issues they don't know about. Then just hang in there. Change at FXF--and, indeed, any multinational corporation--comes slowly, but it does happen. I've learned over the last decade that patience eventually pays off.

I think I'm "too new" to saying anything to anyone at the higher level. I started here in May of last year. Our entire barn needs renovation, but it seems like nobody wants to work on it. Some contractors started working in the office and city dispatch few weeks ago, but they quit last week and probably won't come back.

They plan on adding another 100 doors, but this building is just old and falling apart. It would be much cheaper to build a new one and tear this one down. This barn used to be owned by Consolidated freightways

The fact that work even started is a promising sign. It took years to get the FLG barn renovated, but it happened, and was an amazing upgrade.

And you're never 'too new' to send someone a well-composed, coherent and respectful email.

Question, when Fedex freight opens a new facility does FedEx send their current drivers over to new facility? or do they start Hiring for that new facility only? The reason I'm asking is bc they just open a new facility and I have a interview (City Driver) coming this week for the new building.

Most likely they will have a hiring event or they will have openings for drivers on their website. Some driver don't want to transfer since they will lose their senioroty and start at the bottom again.

Wonder how the seniority stuff works going into a brand new terminal though. If everyone starts the same day that transferred in...

that makes sense! Although I got a call from corporate last tues 01/15, everything seemed fine(fxf)...however I haven't heard anything from the TM in greensboro. Someone mentioned they are opening a new hub in Salisbury(45 minutes away)....might not call me since I live 7 minutes from the terminal in greensboro. Oh well, in no rush. I happen to like where I'm at, however wife got kicked off of insurance and need to find something that actually HAS 'family benefits'. She works part time for the school system, not offered any insurance, but company sees that they have insurance for her(yeah FULL TIME NOT PART TIME!) and can't be on mine. I understand companies wanting to save money and all, but when you are part time, EVERYBODY KNOWS you are never offered insurance unless you are FULL TIME! Oh well, she's in great health, now, so I can take my time. If I don't hear anything, there's always early-late spring to really get on the ball with things.
